Other than the Kentucky game where the QB play was pretty bad for all four quarters, poor QB play in the second half is mostly to blame for the current record. I know the defense hasn't been as good lately, but I think they have played well enough. I think you can make an argument that the Arkansas and Auburn games could have been wins with better QB play in the second half. The defense was bad in the third quarter against Arkansas, but they kicked the crap out of Arkansas' offense in the fourth quarter and a good offense would've given Arkansas one or two less drives in the third. The offense was running all over Auburn and a decent passing attack would've resulted in probably 21 more points on the board and no pick 6 for AU. That's what is so frustrating. This team would look completely different with better QB play.

Being competitive in a loss is not just a "moral victory". It indicates that you are close to playing winning football. Getting blown out... says you aren't and worse yet may not have the character to win.

You should never be "happy" with a loss. A loss is... a loss. But a competitive loss is reason for hope. When you are blown out by a less talented UK team... that's not just a loss. It is an indication of direction in your program.
I hate to admit it, but you are spot on. So far, we have exposed every weakness we have.

In 2015 and 2016, Florida won the East and I wasn’t happy.

I used the phrase that Florida was the tallest midget.

What I wanted was to see them play good football and they weren’t playing good football. Now, of course, if you play “good football”, you’re going to win games.

But, those teams won games, won the division, and still looked like garbage.

So, I think this is a big deal because Tennessee can go 7-5 next year and the win-loss record will look better and people will point to improvement, but they can still be playing bad football.
Your post reminded me of the 2007 Vols team
