I love how “The Pub” is mostly for wholesome sharing. There needs to be more corners of this on the internet, but hey. We all need to vent every once in a while. So, what drives you crazy? Here’s a couple of my pet peeves.

1. Someone licking their fingers before turning a page. It’s so disgusting and unnecessary. Might as well just spit inside the book.

2. Apps that update and lose a very basic feature. For example, a few years ago after a Spotify update, and all the sudden, you could not sort your playlists in alphabetical order. I mean, updates are supposed to make the app better, but there’s always something very basic and user-friendly in the update that they eliminate.

3. A person who doesn’t take constructive criticism well about their manners, because “I’m very self-conscious about my faults.” It’s something I notice in a whole lot of people nowadays, and I find it annoying that people don’t try to improve themselves, but instead try to make others feel bad for pointing out their lack of manners.

For example, I have a friend (let’s call him Dave, but that’s not his name) who has a bad habit of interrupting people and derailing a conversation. Dave doesn’t listen and respond. He controls conversations. One day, another friend (let’s call him George) was in the middle of telling a story I was interested in, and Dave interrupted in the middle of the story with something completely unrelated and steamrolled George. I stopped him and said, “Dave, hang on. You’re interrupting George,” and George said, “Yeah, you do that a lot.” And Dave immediately got offended and said, “Guys, you’re making me self-conscious!” Well, maybe you should be self-conscious and work to be better.

This idea that being self-conscious is a bad thing is weird to me. If you are self-conscious to an extreme, that can be unhealthy, but having a minimal amount of self-awareness is a good thing.

So those are some of my pet peeves. What drives you crazy?

The interuppting people and having to cut in gets on my nerves as well.

Backseat/Passenger side drivers. If you want to drive, please do. Don't critique my driving or someone else's.

Loud and obnoxious people in public settings and trying to shop in Walmart without it giving me a nervous breakdown. People can be rude. Makes you dread a trip to the store. Those are a few that come to mind.

People that use the atm and act like it’s their first time ever. Hurry the #%*! Up.

People on their phones at red lights causing me to have to sit through another cycle because they take 4 seconds to realize the light is green.

People who brake almost to a stop and THEN turn their signal on.

People throwing cigs/trash out their windows.

Left lane campers.

One uppers.

People who eat well done steak with ketchup.

People in drive-thrus that sit in line for 7 minutes and then start digging for their money when they get to the pay window.

Lifted trucks with obnoxious light bars.

I'm sure I'll think of more.

People who have their phone on speaker phone in public. I should be allowed to shoot them in the face. Horrible, awfull, selfish dbags. Or watch videos/media on their phone that others can hear. All a holes

101% with you on that. There also seems to be a strong correlation between public speakerphone usage and lack of an "inside voice" when using it.

My ex was and is one of those people. She elected to have a 45-minute (non-emergency) conversation with her mother, on speakerphone, as we sat in a packed terminal awaiting a flight. After she hung up, she proceeded to share updates on all the goings-on and gossip from her mother and I stopped her and pointed out that I, as well as half the damn waiting area, had all the updates already. It was a quiet flight after that, at least.

There's lots of phone associated things. I find it annoying to have people blathering on their phones loudly in public regardless but to some extent that's the world we live in now. The speaker phone part should be at least worth a beatdown. If it's truly somewhere that's supposed to be peaceful by default, like a movie theater, this guy is my spirit animal.

My peeve with my pet is that the old cat has dementia. She’s sequestered herself in our breakfast nook, only coming out to the family room or to go onto the screened porch. The breakfast nook is now festooned with litter boxes (she’ll stop using one, so she has two to choose from), food & water bowls, and is blocked off with makeshift partitions at night. Why couldn’t she choose the mud room?!

people who try to cut over multiple lanes of traffic when they realize they missed their exit. bite the bullet, merge safely over, and just use the next exit. its not nearly as life or death as they are making it out to be. most roads connect so even if you miss your exit you are probably only adding a minute or two to your commute.

people who talk on their phones in the bathroom, speaker phone or not. If someone did that to me I would just hang up.

people who will call you multiple times within a short time frame. I don't mind talking on the phone, in fact its usually the best way to get direct communication done. but instead of calling 3-5 times in half an hour, send an email or text or Teams, or just have one longer conversation with me.

people who refuse to walk/ride bicycles/travel someway but not stay on the right side of the surface they are travelling on. yeah its not a car driving on a striped road, but the same logic applies. you stay on the right side in whichever direction you are travelling.

cops who pass stranded motorists or people in need of help in some form or fashion. "serve the community" is still part of the job. I try to give some leeway, because maybe another cop has already responded, and that person doesn't need help. but unless they are going to an active emergency or have some direct task, they can take 2 minutes to pull over and make sure everything is ok.

People congregating in high traffic areas in public (in entries/exits to buildings, in the middle of an aisle or sidewalk, etc.). If you ran into someone you know out in public and start having a convo with them, that's great; just get out of the way. You don't stop in the middle of the road if you realize you need to attend to something while driving your car.

People who don't really listen to what you are saying and/or their next statement after you are done saying something doesn't follow. I know a few people who often don't really converse with others - they just make a series of statements, many of which aren't even related to each other, that you presumably are just supposed to stand there and listen to. Double points for someone who does this while you are still talking.

People who ask you a question, but just keep talking and don't let you answer.

My pet peeve is when there is traffic and people who aren't in a hurry don't GAF about paying attention to how they can do their part to optimize traffic. When the light turns green, I am ready and don't allow a gap in front of me that would mean a car behind me doesn't get through the light. It's really just common courtesy. And you got people who will allow a 5 car gap because they're on their phone, or whatever. Crucify them.

And conversely, I really appreciate people who I can see are on the ball. The other day, I let 2 people in and as I started to let in the 2nd guy, he wasn't expecting the generosity, so he wasn't ready to go. Then I'm thinking, "oh no, I'm gonna let in this 1 guy in and it's going to cost 5 people behind me." But then he noticed, punches it, immediately closes the gap, and then I close behind him, and nobody behind me suffered. He understood the assignment. That was 4 weeks ago and I still think about that guy.
