His alma mater is KSU and John Currie just left there. He may have some connections. Defensive minded head coaches seem to do well. Saban, Smart, Franklin, etc. Sorry, looks like this has been discussed in another thread. Merge if needed.

No.

The list goes:

1. Jon Gruden
2. Chip Kelly
3. Scott Frost

Nobody else should be acceptable to the Tennessee fanbase. We're done with taking chances. Its time for the sure thing. Those are the only 3 coaches available that would make Tennessee a national title contending program.

Don't think any of these are coming.

With all due respect, Frost has been a HC for less than 2 full seasons, right? Seems like taking a chance. Many college HC's out there with years of experience and success when you consider their entire resume. Clawson is one of them. Slowly turning BG around after doing same at Bowling Green. My #3 would be Cut, I don't care if he's 80 years old. Bring back boring but with it, back comes real football, heavy Peyton involvement, QB development, and a seriousness that has been lacking for nearly a decade. Enough with the circus.

Prepare for disappointment. Frost is the only legit name you mentioned.

If/when we are unable to land a big name, proven coach, Venables would be a great choice. I would rather go with him than another *****ing MAC or CUSA level coach any day of the week.

His son enrolls at Clemson this year and is playing somewhere on D. He's not going anywhere for atleast 3 years imo.

No on the job learning here for HC. To many better names out there to start looking at coordinators.

I really hoped that Butch would have made some huge strides during the bye week. The defense is ok, can't help but think it would be better if the Offense was working. In my honest opinion, the OL and WRs are the weakest points, neither block very well and they seem to be manhandled by 3rd and 4th Qtrs.

Don't get me wrong, I still respect CBJ, however, the title of HC, is not his to own. He would make a better assistant vs. a HC.......sometimes, people are promoted to a level of incompetency.

If you truly was the caretaker of UT Football, the ethical thing would not force UT to pay 100% of his buyout. I know that it is a foolish thought, but it would fit what he has preached. He, like other HCs, need to move on to another school and apply the lessons learned at UT, but leave with some dignity, not in the night with your wife and children.

Butch, you underestimated SEC Football, whatever your inter-being told you, it was a lot more, a whole lot more than you believed. UT Fans don't believe you intended to fail, you worked hard, everyone knows that, but look in the mirror, am I actually placing UT's future in jeopardy by staying, don't let pride get you.........you are a prideful person, a competitor and a good father. However, HC in the SEC? nope........love ya man, but this is not your bag. Heck look at all the HCs that came through the SEC in the past 10 years, it is a very crowded club.

Go Vols!!!

Every last one of those hires is taking a chance.

FlyFishinVol, your loyalty is admirable. I think more people than we would think were there with you on Jones. UT has a special fan base that will get behind folks who work hard. Jones did that in recruiting, in ensuring his athletes were going to class, and even trying to teach his system. He simply could never game day coach which likely means he's a notch or two above his actual understanding of this game. I think he would be a pretty good position coach in a P5 program (special teams/recruiting coordinator) or a HC in Division 2. JMO:good!:

The list goes:

1. Jon Gruden - A pay cut to work harder? Nope
2. Chip Kelly - A show clause and baggage. My choice but it’s not happening
3. Scott Frost - Unless Tennessee is prepared to offer crazy money with an insane buyout he’s not coming.

There are a lot of coaches that are exceptable just not to some fans

My opinion he or none of his assistants can teach no one seems to be improving on this team. Why do we always lose the best linebackers to injury every stinking year?

We are not going after Chip Kelly because of the problems he had at Oregon. Frost is gonna end up at Nebraska.

Many of his assistants are new this year. Guys like Hoke, Warren, Beard and Rock get a pass because of that. Now Thig? Wells? Both of them can go. Gillespie is very good.

The fact is Butch has only had 1 really good LB in 5 years. JRM. Every other LB is either average to below average. Even DK, he is not some special LB. as a matter of fact, he is about average for the SEC.

A contract is a contract. The buyout goes both ways. Frankly, I don't think it belongs in any contract, but as long as it's in the deal, both sides should be bound to it. If UT were smarter about the hires, they wouldn't need worry about dealing with the buyout. It would serve only to protect UT against a great coach leaving them early. Nope. UT got into bed with Kiffin, Dooley and now Butch. They own it.
