White House delayed enacting rules ahead of 2012 election to avoid controversy - The Washington Post

The Obama administration has repeatedly said that any delays until after the election were coincidental and that such decisions were made without regard to politics. But seven current and former administration officials told The Washington Post that as Obama’s top aides focused on avoiding controversy the motives behind many of the delays were clearly political, before his reelection.

The number and scope of delays under Obama went well beyond those of his predecessors, who helped shape rules but did not have the same formalized controls, said current and former officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the topic.

The officials interviewed for the ACUS report, whose names were withheld from publication by the study authors, said that starting in 2012 they had to meet with an OIRA desk officer before submitting each significant rule for formal review. They called the sessions “Mother-may-I” meetings, according to the study.

The accounts were echoed by four Obama administration political appointees and three career officials interviewed by The Post.

I'm guessing this article is the first Obama has heard of this.

Obama knowingly told a mountain of lies to the American people. He fully understood that if that if the truth about ObamaCare was known, it would never have been stomached by the people.

A reelection mounted and won on a heap of lies is illegitimate.

Couldn't you argue that about a lot of reelections?

It's up to the people not be duped.

I suppose you could.

The "it's up to the people not to be duped" standard seems to only be applicable in politics.

Good point but I think product liability laws are too restrictive.

Overall, the law wasn't broken here but the public trust certainly has been - repeatedly.

Less like product liability. More like outright fraud. ACA debacle makes Madoff look like a piker.

Come on. He did it openly, loudly and unapologetically in pushing the Obamacare abortion down our throats. The timing was purely political.

agree 100% - no crime though

Only reason is because he's in politics. Had a business committed fraud on this scale, holder and Obama would be mugging for cameras, demonizing greedy corporate entities, and ensuring entire leadership does time.

Wow.

Seven of them.

And none named so we can check into the claim.

Convenient.

I agree, no way this administration would pull something so underhanded as this. This is the most transparent administration ever....

You don't find it odd that a GOP-aligned newspaper writes a story claiming to have talked to SEVEN former administration officials about this, not one of whom they name, but they talked to plenty of former Bush people who said that whatever it is they were told, its worse under Obama than Bush?

Come on. Grow up.

Certainly if we knew who they were you could see where they worked and when, and whether they REALLY had input or a role in such processes, not to mention the circumstances under which they left the employer they now claim to have the dirt on.

Imagine if MSNBC claimed that seven former GOP administration officials claimed to have the inside skinny on the next GOP presidential hopeful, but won't name them or give one iota of information about them or whether they were truly in a position to know what they claim to know.

You'd be at least a little skeptical.

Not every news outlet than runs a negative story about Obama is "GOP aligned", grow up.

This isn't breaking news either, it came out before the election that the EPA was delaying new regulations until after the election, that is fact. What would make you think they didn't do it with other departments?

Of course all are "GOP aligned" right?

So you are telling me you would find it perfectly normal for a news agency to reveal their sources that give them under the table information in a time when witch hunts for people who leak information is at it's highest?

C'mon man, nobody is that dumb.

There are always stories about this kind of thing with every president. The "news" here was that it was "soooooo" much worse this time than previous, and that depends on these unnamed SEVEN people.

Article says current and former. To not name one of the seven suggests either the writer is exaggerating what they are saying, or, shall we say, "interpreting" it.
