West Virginia Scouting Report

Thanks for your hard work. Here is our scouting report. Most of our guys were better players coming out of high school than your guys. We have more talent than WVU across the board except for QB. However, all of our guys have had all the football coached out of them until this year. So, if our guys show up, and your guys show up, and our guys are coached right then we should do better than most think. Our receivers, I believe are as good as yours if not better. I would take our RB's as well. I would take our LB's and our DB's. I would also take our DL over WVU's. Our OL is man for man better, but we will see how they function as a unit. Your QB is better. Our coach has better hair than yours and our coach has none. WVU 92-Vols 3

WV has the best receivers, QB and OL.
WV has the best MLB, beyond that it appears to be a wash.
Grier will probably throw for 300+, so the big question is can the offense somewhat control the clock and score enough to keep it close, let's hope they can.
I think this is too tall an order for a team that went 4-8 last year, but it's college football and anything can happen, Grier could get hurt, you just never know
Go Vols

See, Photo, I just don't know if you're right or not on most of those counts. None of us do.

If you'd said instead, "WV has seen the best performances from their.....", I'd have to agree.

But...is their OLine better than our OLine now that we have solid coaching? We don't yet know.

Their receivers? We don't yet know.

LBs? Don't yet know.

We have several metric tons of talent on this team, but we've never seen them play after an off-season of training with an excellent college football coaching staff.

This season, we will.

Then we'll know, one way or the other.

I'm thinking maybe we're gonna be pleasantly surprised, to WV's chagrin.

I never understood smack talking BEFORE a big game. We can argue this or that..."you guys ain't that good" etc etc....but no bragging rights will be granted until we play the game. THEN...we or they can talk smack.

One thing to remember in all of this, Vols have lead the nation in the past two seasons on Phil Steele’s “missed starts” metric. I know the statement everyone makes - “all teams get beat up, part of the game.” Well according to Phil Steele no one in the country was beat up as we were. In fact, I’d argue last season we lost a couple of close games due to the injury bug before the season even started.

Knock on all of the wood, but this season, not so much. We’re looking at a very different team this year compared to last,

I am strictly speaking of the talent level of each team and unit per recruiting rankings. They clearly show we have a talent advantage.

Let me respond with this...I thought it was really helpful for me when I was comparing rosters. We have more 4 stars in every class in this amount of time than they have on their entire squad. I know that we don't like to "look at recruiting rankings", but it does back up my point that when the two teams meet on September 1st the most talented team will be by far the Vols. I would take our roster at every single position over theirs. Hands down. Not saying we will win....but man vs. man, we are a bigger, faster, stronger team.

Watched the Missouri and Kentucky games and Nigel Warrior is as NFL as it gets. Great player.
Unfortunately, if you want to see the potential of any of those guys you have to watch multiple games. Not much was consistent last year except poor coaching.

In a few games, Callaway looked All World. Then he disappears. Brandon Johnson who some think will fade to a back up role (I don't, I like him) looked great in a few games especially Vandy. Ty Chandler didn't get the ball enough but he can flat out run.

If you can pick him out, Trey Smith was pretty impressive for a Fr. He mauled people.

If you watch Guarantano at the beginning of the Vandy game and in the last minute of the USCe game... you'd think he was no All American watch lists. He's accurate and can make every throw.

There are some really talented guys on this team if these coaches are as good as we hope and the players can get their collective acts together.

I'm going to try to find time to do a quality post on the our talent vs their talent argument in the coming days. For the data I compiled, I only considered talent that is likely to affect this game by playing a significant role... So basically an abbreviated 2 deep. I did not include kickers or punters, not sure there's a significant advantage either way.

I've compiled the data and spoiler alert, we have more raw talent on our "likely to play significantly roster" at every position. I just need to make it presentable.

Despite our raw talent advantage, if you made this a pick'em game, I'd probably take wvu for the win because of their coaching stability and our drastically new offence and defense systems.
