I was the always the smallest kid in class and on the football team. (Only 5'2" my Freshman year) I was a runt so I guess I looked like an easy target. The Griffey twins were the terrors in my elementary school because they were bigger than everyone else, plus there were two of them. After weeks of their abuse, my father noticed a change in me and sat me down to find out the problem. He told me that the next time they started in on me, if I did not follow his advice I would get it worse when I got home. He told me to look directly at their nose and hit it as hard and as often as I could. The next day at pee wee football practice after school, one of the Griffeys started in on me and grabbed my face mask and swung me around until my helmet came off. I remember the uncontrollable rage that overtook me. All fear left my body and I proceeded to throw a series of left hooks to his nose until blood was streaming down his face. His brother never jumped in, which surprised me. I don't recall if he ever landed a blow on me because of my adrenline. That event followed me up through high school and no one ever picked on me again. I went through a crazy growth spurt my junior year from 5'6" to 6'3''. Never had to fight again until later in life when I got a job as a bouncer for 2 years. Too old to fight now, I'll just shoot your azz if you swing on me now. Peace at last!

I liked getting into fights. But there wasn't much bullying involved, just trash talk.

I was always laid back, the lover not a fighter type. I usually didn't let myself get coerced into a fight, because I had a really bad temper once I got angry. One of the tough guys who bullied made a derogatory comment to my steady gal, and then spread it around that I wouldn't do anything about it. I ran into him at a pep rally and told him to take what he said back which only provoked another line of crap, so we got into a damned hard fist fight. I had taken a year of Ishanru Karate and pretty soon had him in a headlock with my left arm and was pounding his face with my right when cops broke it up. At school the next day he looked like he stuck his face into a meat grinder. I never had anyone pick a fight with me again. In fact I became an anti-bully, and would stand up for my buds when they were bullied. Never once had to fight.

Did you finish him off with the crane kick?

In High School I felt really bad when my Mother asked me if I was mean. I said what makes you think I mean Mom? She said she heard a rumor that I would fight a chain saw. I said "Mom! that doesn't make me mean, it makes me stupid." She got a good laugh out of that one. I was only 5'2" my freshman year so I had to be mean or be bruised.

Wow that's terrible. What were they doing to the kid?

Made fun of him for the way he looked and he had a lisp. It was very sad when we all found out. Went to elementary, middle, and high school with him up until 11th grade.
