We're so close to where we want to be

Anyone saying Heupel can't win in the SEC at this point is just voicing their hopes. He's proven he already can, and our talent level is still climbing. It kinda reminds me of how we talked about Urban Meyer when he was first hired at Florida.
Urban won two national titles and two SEC titles after his 4th season. I don’t think Heupel and Meyer is a good comparison.

Encouraged by the offense. Unsure of the defense (especially DL depth), but all in on Heupel. Why would we not be, he brought us out of a couple of decades of irrelevance. Go Vols!

Yeah it's not really a great comparison when you factor that all Florida has to do is not be the worst school in the state and they can just stack blue chip recruits from their local area. Florida is always a coaching hire away from being an absolute powerhouse simply because of all the local high school talent.

Convert them.
Some you just can't. I know a guy who's really into hunting and fishing. Born/raised in TN but bever watched football in his life. A few years ago his son started dating (and later married) a girl who's entire family were huge Vols fans, so his son converted. So in '22 my friend said, "Ok, it sounds like we're about to have a big party for this Bama game so I'm going to watch it and see what all the fuss is about." He watched his first and only UT football game when we beat Bama in '22. Never watched another game, just not interested. If someone like that won't convert, it ain't gonna happen lol.

My old man woulda kicked babies before he watched any sporting event. Which always led to the "I was too busy in the fields to watch football" speech.

He hasn't won less than 9 games since his first year here. That was 4 seasons ago. He's a hell of a coach. The way he has these kids playing is straight up good coaching. And now he has one of the best recruiting classes in the nation. Like, I don't understand how you guys don't see what they're building right now. Heupel and Danny are putting on multiple clinics
I'm convinced some Vol fans do not want to hear good news. They prefer their doom and gloom outlook on life. Pointless to try to help those folks.

Honestly consistently winning 9-10 games in this era is likely the upper echelon. I think with NIL and the portal the days of teams winning 3 natties in a row are over. You’ll obviously have teams that will always be near the top of the heap, but I think for most programs it will be more like the NFL for better or worse. You consistently win 9-10 games a season and every few years you hit the magic and win it all.
Well, to be fair, those days have been over since 1936 (Minnesota) 🤣.

I've got some insight for the 8 -10 win discussion.

Josh Heupel
66 - 23 (.741)
UCF 28 - 8 (.777) UT 38 - 15 (.716)

Heupel has only coached 1 season with less than 13 games (2020 6-4), but I'll let that season count for the comparison.
10 - 3 (.769)
9 - 4 (.692)
8 - 5 (.615)

A pedant could harp about .741 being less than .769, but Heupel has won at least 10 games 4 times while only winning less than 10 games 3 times.

This conclusively proves the glass is half full.
