We're screwed....

Wow.

Creer was the 6th ranked back in the nation coming out of high school and I dont know how you can bash his stats. 35 carries for 216 yards. Thats over 6 yard per carry. Pretty damn solid if you ask me. Is it TT's fault that he didnt get the ball more, too?

It was Creer's fault. He isn't yet big enough to handle too many carries. Also he has trouble with fumbles.

It seemed to me at the time that CF put Sanders in as OC to keep him from leaving. I am not saying that Sanders did a bad job, but to make that important a move to keep someone from leaving is not a good way to do business. I am glad to see that CF is taking the time to look for an OC that will enhance the program and not put someone in the position because they will leave if you don't. You can't run a business like that.

I hate to see Cut go, but he was always a bandaid and not a solution. He was gone the first chance he got and you can't blame him. Our mistake was not finding a good young OC who could move the program in a positive direction and instead put on a bandaid.

What are we going to do now? Midway through the season everyone thought we should get rid of CPF and Chavis, and now they're pretty much the only ones coming back.

Say what you want to about TT, but the man recruited and coached some of our best players in recent memory. We are probably going to lose a number of great recruits, not mention the players who may transfer.

I have a bad feeling about next season as well as this off season.

:cray:

I don’t understand how other programs can have coaching changes without mass player exodus but many people on here seem to think we will???

It’s not all doom and gloom guys/gals. This is a great opportunity for improvement.

This OC hire is going to make or break Phil Fulmer. Next 5-6 season the OC isn't going to take the fall, Fulmer will. He may not have a strong grasp of the spoken word but the man isn't stupid and he know if a 5-6 comes again he's done no if, ands, or buts.

Do you think he's going to put a guy in the box that's learning how to call plays?

We will be fine guys. You know UT was a pretty good football team before Trooper came here. Just relax, CPF knows his neck is out on this hire.

This team isn't winning the national championship next year if we bring in the entire Patriots staff. We can be competitive, but we've definitely got some problems that will keep us from being that elite.

In a strange way I am comforted by all of this activity because I believe it will hasten the departure of Coach Fulmer, which is something that I have advocated for quite some time. He has backed himself into a corner on multipe fronts. The only way he comes out of this smelling like a rose in my opinion is to win the Outback Bowl; hire an oustanding OC with an innovative offensive system from outside "the family"; pick up at least one dynamic, fan-pleasing, master recruiter to replace Taylor; close this season with a Top 10 recruiting class; and at least win a share of first place in the SEC East next year. Winning the Outback Bowl is probably the least significant of those four events but it will set the tone going into the off season.

Unless Phillip completely abandons his past modus operandi with regard to hiring/promoting from within and devotion to his system, I do not think he can last more than another season or two. The bad/sad thing is that in his departure he is going to leave a gaggle of assistants who nobody else wants, who are highly resistant to change, and who are not qualified to run a program by themselves There will be a paucity of talent for the next head coach due to lackluster recruiting classes for 2006, 2008, and probably the next year or two after that (not to mention the possibility of losing playmakers from the 2007 class due to transfer or very early exit to the NFL).

A miracle may happen and Fulmer might make the right decisions/hires to move the program onward and upward but miracles are rare and not to be expected. If what I see coming actually turns out to be the way things go down, I think that in the future most Vol fans will reflect on what has happened in Knoxville the past two years and will then have to admit to themselves that Phil should've been ushered out after the 2005 debacle.

Agree 100%

With all the Talent we have here, it will be invigorating to see if a new coach can do something really explosive with it.

That is what I have said too, yes it is possible 2008 may not be as successful as it would have been. It may be better now, if these changes rid the staff of dissension we may have not even known about.

We might lose a player or two, most of that is just talk, more likely to lose a few prospects, but there are others available.

How can you say..."TT coached and recruited some of our best players in recent memory"?

Correct me if Im wrong but TT was only here for 3 years..since 2004....He has hardly recruited our "best" players..maybe in the classes he was apart of...but to say we have lost the cornerstone of the program is a bit much
