True, We will probably find out who is number 1 in the SEC when Georgia and Texas meet in the SEC championship game.Honestly, they were the better team for 3 1/2 quarters and, at that, I didn’t think they were (that) great. They dominated Texas. Then, it seems like they went ahead and called it a day.
I wouldn't forget Indiania. They're probably the highest paid team since NIL started. I also include buying coaches too. That donor money supports that too. They had about a 40mil player roster last year. IIRC actual persons in the know and not working for eyeball sites estimated it at that. We'll never know the true number. We just know they had a guy who had been buying professional athletes most of his life as the main donor and was giddy af to give bonuses after they won the playoff tournament. For all----
We lost. As always, plenty of people in here are ready to put the coach on the hot seat and cancel the rest of the season. I'm not seeing it that way. We lost to the No. 1 team in the nation, and we had a real chance to win despite an inept offense.
For years, we've struggled with a defense that couldn't stop a Division II team. We've had the offense to put up 70 points on somebody and a defense that let them score 71. That's not the case anymore. I believe Jim Knowles has already taken us from a bottom-of-the-barrel defense to a top-25 defense, and it didn't even take a full year. If we're this good after one spring and summer, I can only imagine how good we'll look by the end of this season and heading into next.
Everybody needs to grow up and recognize that we have a true freshman at quarterback and a redshirt freshman backing him up. We talked about it all preseason. We knew quarterback would be a weak link.
We were also told we'd have maulers on the offensive line. That isn't the case. The line isn't performing anywhere near the level it should. With a freshman quarterback, they have to carry the load, give him time, and slow the game down for him. We know we have to run the ball, and it's the line's job to open holes. They couldn't get it done in this game, and they'll face defenses as capable as Texas's several more times this year.
We have one of the best running backs in the nation and several excellent backs behind him. The passing game looks a little weak, but we know who our coach is and what kind of chicken salad he can make out of chicken s*** on offense. I'm sure he was just as surprised as the rest of us that we couldn't move the ball. He'll make corrections, and the offense will improve before the season gets much further along.
Is he going to take us to the playoffs this year? No. We're just not good enough as a total package. But we're on the cusp of having a roster that can get there year in and year out. And no, this isn't more rah-rah "we'll get 'em next year" b*******. It's a legitimate statement.
Everybody just needs to hold their water. We're going to take some lumps this season, and we're going to surprise some people. I think the odds of us finishing better than 7-5 are a hell of a lot higher than finishing worse. I see us as a minimum 8-4 team, and we'll probably annihilate somebody in a bowl game. There's always an outside shot we sneak into the playoffs, but we wouldn't do well. I'd just as soon not show up at all as show up and get throttled like we did against Ohio State.
I'm sure people will pile on with, "It's his sixth year. Why are we rebuilding again?" Because this is the NIL era, and nothing is the same anymore. You can come into the fall with a stacked roster and tons of talent playing backup, and then the next season half your skill players transfer out for more money. You're back to square one, plugging in players.
Then there's the financial side. Your best starter leaves for significantly more money. You didn't have the money to keep him, and you don't have the money to buy a replacement of his caliber. So what do you do? You go get somebody, anybody. You've got a hole to plug, and you find the best plug you can. That torpedoes your roster year after year.
Teams like Ohio State, Texas, Texas A&M, and Oregon have the money to buy deeper rosters. We're not there yet. We're about $20 million away from competing with the top tier, and until we close that gap, we'll never truly be a contender.
So instead of opening our mouths to give opinions, we should be opening our wallets and donating to the NIL fund.
No you're not going to crawdad back from what you said. This isn't about objective honesty. You tried to say that he didn't yet prove to you that he had reached the level of Mark Richt. The guy who broke the Bama curse, the Florida curse, recruited 2 of the best QB In the nation twice now, just picked up the best running backs in the nation, just hired a world beater DC, actually got us to a #1 ranking, AND got us to the playoffs somehow does not meet your description of a good coach. If he's not the coach that you want to see here, who do you legitimately think you're going to replace him with?

You accused me of writing something I didn’t write, and that was after you quoted it. I’ll stand by my comment 100%. It is about objectivity because objectivity shows he’s not to Richt’s level. Richt won SEC titles and Heupel hasn’t. I love the DC pick but let’s not call him General Neyland because he finally hired a great coordinator. He may be able to recruit 5 star QBs and DGG, but that doesn’t prove he’s a good coach. Look at his career coaching record against top 10, top 15 and top 25 schools. It’s not great. Granted he inherited a dumpster fire, but 6 years in, he should be reloading not rebuilding. No you're not going to crawdad back from what you said. This isn't about objective honesty. If you listen to some our fans, we've been on the edge of going 30-0 each year and popping a natty for 20 something years. Not really. We went an entire decade without any chance to compete nationally. The one before that we finished in the top 10 one time. We've done that twice in this decade already
And you still won't answer the question who you would even replace him withYou accused me of writing something I didn’t write, and that was after you quoted it. I’ll stand by my comment 100%. I’m not sure your obsession for me to say who I’d replace him with when I haven’t called for him to be fired. I hate it I apparently hurt your feelings for telling the truth and pointing out facts, but I’m going to play along just for the amusement. If I could hand pick any coach to replace him with, it would be Dan Lanning, but we all know he wouldn’t leave Oregon. However, I would like someone with the consistency like Lanning. And you still won't answer the question who you would even replace him with
Objectively he has not reached that level yet. No SEC titles, never been in the SEC title game. Richt won 2 in his 1st 5 seasons. No you're not going to crawdad back from what you said.
