We lost. As always, we have tons of guys in here ready to put the coach on the hot seat and ready to cancel the rest of the season. But I'm not seeing it that way. We lost to the number one team in the nation and actually stood a chance of winning it despite our offense being inept. We have struggled for years with a defense that could not stop a division 2 team. We've had the offense to run up 70 points on somebody and a defense that couldn't stop them from putting up 71. But that's not the case anymore. I genuinely believe that Jim Knowles has already taken us from a bottom of the barrel defense to somehow being a top 25 defense. it didn't even take a full year. If our defense is this good after one spring and summer practice session, I can only imagine how good we're going to look by the end of this season and coming into next season. Everybody needs to grow up and recognize that we had a true freshman quarterback and a a redshirt freshman backup. We've talked about it all preseason. We've known that we are going to have a weak link at quarterback. We were told we were going to have mallers on the offensive line. That is not the case. Our offensive line is not performing nearly to the level they should be. And with a freshman quarterback, they have to carry the load for him to give him the time and to slow the game down. We know we're going to have to run it and it's that lines job to make room. They couldn't get it done in this game. And they're going to face defenses as capable as Texas multiple times this year. We have one of the best running backs in the nation and several others behind him that are excellent. Our passing game is looking a little weak. But we know who our coach is and we know what kind of chicken salad he can make out of chicken s*** when it comes to an offense. I'm sure the coach was just as surprised as the rest of us about our inability to move the ball. He'll make some corrections. He'll be able to improve the offense before this season gets much further along. Is he going to take us to the playoffs this season? No. There is no playoffs for us this season. We're just not that good as a total package. But we're on the cusp of having a roster that can do it year in and year out. No this is not more that rara we'll get them next year b*******. It's a legitimate statement. Everybody just needs to hold their water. We're going to take some lumps this season. We're going to surprise some people this season. I think that the probability of us beating a 7 and 5 season is a hell of a lot higher than us going south of that. I think we are a minimum 8 and 4 team this season And we're probably going to annihilate somebody in a bowl game. There's always the outside shot we sneak into the playoffs but we're not going to do well. I would just assume not show up in the playoffs as show up and then get throttled like we did against Ohio State. I'm sure everybody's going to pile on with the blah blah blah "it's his 6th year coaching. why are we in a rebuilding year again?" It's because this is the nil era. Nothing is the same anymore. You can have a stacked roster coming into the fall and have a ton of talent playing back up. Then the next season half your skill players transfer out for more money. You're back to square one trying to plug in players. Then you have to figure in the financial aspect of it. You had a player who was your best starter. He leaves for significantly more money. So what are you going to do? You didn't have the money to pay him to stay. You don't have the money to buy a replacement of his caliber. So what do you do? You go get somebody. Anybody. You've got a hole to plug and you try to find the best plug you can find. But that torpedoes your roster year in and year out. Teams like Ohio State, Texas, Texas A&m, Oregon all have enough money to go out and buy fatter rosters. we are not there yet. We are about $20 million away from having enough money to compete with the top echelon. Until we can close that Gap, we're never going to truly be a contender. So instead of everybody opening up their mouth and giving an opinion, we should be opening up our wallets and donating personally to the NIL fund.

What kind of fantasy world do you live in? The only thing u said that was true was that Heupel was surprised

You know what else is pretty great? Paragraphs.
For all----

We lost. As always, plenty of people in here are ready to put the coach on the hot seat and cancel the rest of the season. I'm not seeing it that way. We lost to the No. 1 team in the nation, and we had a real chance to win despite an inept offense.
For years, we've struggled with a defense that couldn't stop a Division II team. We've had the offense to put up 70 points on somebody and a defense that let them score 71. That's not the case anymore. I believe Jim Knowles has already taken us from a bottom-of-the-barrel defense to a top-25 defense, and it didn't even take a full year. If we're this good after one spring and summer, I can only imagine how good we'll look by the end of this season and heading into next.
Everybody needs to grow up and recognize that we have a true freshman at quarterback and a redshirt freshman backing him up. We talked about it all preseason. We knew quarterback would be a weak link.
We were also told we'd have maulers on the offensive line. That isn't the case. The line isn't performing anywhere near the level it should. With a freshman quarterback, they have to carry the load, give him time, and slow the game down for him. We know we have to run the ball, and it's the line's job to open holes. They couldn't get it done in this game, and they'll face defenses as capable as Texas's several more times this year.
We have one of the best running backs in the nation and several excellent backs behind him. The passing game looks a little weak, but we know who our coach is and what kind of chicken salad he can make out of chicken s*** on offense. I'm sure he was just as surprised as the rest of us that we couldn't move the ball. He'll make corrections, and the offense will improve before the season gets much further along.
Is he going to take us to the playoffs this year? No. We're just not good enough as a total package. But we're on the cusp of having a roster that can get there year in and year out. And no, this isn't more rah-rah "we'll get 'em next year" b*******. It's a legitimate statement.
Everybody just needs to hold their water. We're going to take some lumps this season, and we're going to surprise some people. I think the odds of us finishing better than 7-5 are a hell of a lot higher than finishing worse. I see us as a minimum 8-4 team, and we'll probably annihilate somebody in a bowl game. There's always an outside shot we sneak into the playoffs, but we wouldn't do well. I'd just as soon not show up at all as show up and get throttled like we did against Ohio State.
I'm sure people will pile on with, "It's his sixth year. Why are we rebuilding again?" Because this is the NIL era, and nothing is the same anymore. You can come into the fall with a stacked roster and tons of talent playing backup, and then the next season half your skill players transfer out for more money. You're back to square one, plugging in players.
Then there's the financial side. Your best starter leaves for significantly more money. You didn't have the money to keep him, and you don't have the money to buy a replacement of his caliber. So what do you do? You go get somebody, anybody. You've got a hole to plug, and you find the best plug you can. That torpedoes your roster year after year.
Teams like Ohio State, Texas, Texas A&M, and Oregon have the money to buy deeper rosters. We're not there yet. We're about $20 million away from competing with the top tier, and until we close that gap, we'll never truly be a contender.
So instead of opening our mouths to give opinions, we should be opening our wallets and donating to the NIL fund.

Moral victories are bs but we have our elite DC finally. Offense will get fixed imho. Heupel has produced elite offenses at several places with several different qbs.
He is not an elite coach. In his entire head coaching career (UCF and TN), he is 12-18 against AP top 25 teams. He’s 2-10 against teams ranked in the top 10 of the AP poll. His record against AP top 5 opponents is 1-6. So, those “elite offenses” haven’t really translated into wins.

He is right we are a lot closer than many think. But it’s high time our O line show up when we need it. A more diverse set of running plays. Faizon is young, but at some point you can’t be to timid and coach can’t coach him timid. He needs to keep playing smart but he needs to trust his instincts. Sometimes you have to make the tough throws in tighter windows. And you have to make the accurate throws on the ones that are open. I want to see our O line play with some fire and get after it. Our defense is going to continue to get better I believe. Lots of football in front of us, the guys got to focus and get it figured out and let’s go take care of business and take off! Good teams learn from tough loses and become better teams. Everything is still in play. GBO

When was Heupel’s last signature win? He underperformed last season and felt it passable to enter the season with a true freshman QB. He has confidence in his job security.

I am beginning to wonder since he made zero adjustments to assist his young QB. I now believe the only thing he's got going offensively is the tempo. Tempo is simply about making the defense decide quickly or snapping the ball before they are ready, nothing to do with strategy.
