Written by someone who obviously doesn't understand what pre-season polls do. They predict the future based on perceived talent/schedule. They don't rehash the past. That's what the previous years' final polls were for.

Exactly. The only thing that the people calling UT overrated can point to is past deficiencies and losing streaks. Because the reality is that this Tennessee team has a stacked and experienced roster, upgraded the coaching staff, and has a more favorable schedule than recent years. Not to mention that pretty much all of the East is in rebuild mode. Take all that into account and its almost impossible to not predict them to win the East, and maybe the whole conference.

This "writer" and others seem to enjoy pointing out that UT hasn't beaten a top 10 team since Jones arrived. Honestly who in their right mind expected UT to beat a top team in years 1 and 2? Last year was the first time we could even be competitive from a talent and experience stand point. It's jounalistic and intellectual dishonesty to use that in an argument.

It's just another lazy attempt at getting clicks.

It blows my mind that the media is saying we are over hyped and over rated when they are the one's hyping us up all offseason. They write articles from January - July hyping us up, and then turn around and say we are over hyped....make up your mind already.

Yep. I don't get it. He even says "I think they'll be good and could very well end up in the Top 10".

Well buddy, that's why they call them predictions. Ya know....predicting the future. If we wait until it has happened....you got it....not a prediction then.

I think one of the criteria for being a sportswriter must be that you have to be stupid.

They also skirt the fact that, while they weren't Top 10 when we beat them, South Carolina finished the season in the Top 10.......ergo....we did in fact beat a Top 10 team.

Fornelli article is overrated, underwhelming and apparently lacks any editing. Per his last sentence regarding UT:

I'm on the 'Tennessee hype Train"...yet...

I TOO want to see some QUALITY wins and QUALITY game time coaching resulting in WINS...before I can REALLY be mad at an article like this...he's frankly right in many ways...some just can't admit it.

The fact is they are wrong. USCe finished 4th the year the Vols won on North's catch. So maybe before you write an article bashing someone you should do your research. Just sayin'

Here's where the writer lost me; he readily admits the preseason polls are meaningless and carries on with his own dislike for them in general, but then acts like "how dare we hand Tennessee such a lofty position inside the top-10".

Secondly, why do these national writers believe so much of the positioning of these polls should be based on past performance? Sure, we are 0-9 vs top-10 teams under Jones, but we are vastly more talented AND experienced than at any other time under his watch. So why continue to punish the 2016 Vols for the failure of less talented, less experienced previous teams? Especially, if like the writer admits, he thinks they have a good chance to finish in the top-10 by season's end anyway.

I'm afraid I have to agree. Almost winning isn't winning. A decisive Florida victory this year will go a long way in convincing me that this is the year.
