Well...it's here..../no matter who the next coach is...(merged)

I seriously doubt Tennessee will bring in a coach that will require so much change in the types of players he needs. RR has talent there, but not the talent that he needs to make his offense click, mainly at QB.

Either way, we'd likely be close to 3-9 anyway next year so what's the difference?

Drop the bucks and get an experienced coach or we are back to this same thing in 4 years. Butch Davis is the biggest name that will pop up, if UT opens up the check book we could get a great coach...I don't like many of the names popping up for this job already. Davis is the only proven coach, and still there is not guarantee he leaves UNC for K'ville.

You all can say what you want....I guarantee there will be plenty of idiots on here next year blasting the new coach when we are as bad or worse than this year

I don't like losing but for me it is more a matter of the way we have lost. We have not really been competitive at all this year. As long as the new coach can keep us in some games we should lose and give us a chance he should be fine.

I don't have a problem if that is what occurs. If the next coach also doesn't meet whatever standards a fan expects then I would expect that coach to get criticized for that. I personally am not going to make my assessment of the next coach based on comparison to past coaches (didn't do that with Fulmer). I am going to make my assessment based on what I see on the field.

That's so funny...funny ironic not funny ha ha....cause I'm usually getting blasted on here for being too optimistic :eek:lol:

How about we give you 1 day of “optimism amnesty” and wait until tomorrow to start blasting you again. :)

Thats a good point

Change is here....it should be embraced. Phil is lost, and confused as to why there is no life in this team....which at this point in the season confirms his methods are dated and no longer effective. It's only football, but it does evolve.

Our talent pool is not that deep and we will not have a spectacular season next year with our new coach. Be cheerful now, because it probably won't be pretty next year as well. I'd say 2-3 years before we are SEC contenders/NC game material. I welcome change and the growing pains that come with it.

You're right. Saban has tons of talent on that Bama team. May only take 2 years!

Careful...I said something similar about how bleak next year will be and I got reemed for it...

Of course looking back on the thread I definitely didn't do a good job of saying what I was trying to...I guess I was just a little emotional at that point

There is unquestionably enough talent on this team, that with the right staff, could easily be an 8-4 team NEXT year! Now do I expect to be 11-1? No of course I don't. But I do expect improvement.

What I want is for a coach to come in and really separate the wheat from the chaff. I want someone who is going to find the HEART of this team and find out just who wants to play football for Tennessee. I was never more angry as a Vol fan in my life as I was on Saturday night when they showed our players laughing and cutting up on the sidelines while we were down by double digits in the 4th quarter. I want a coach that will run those player's ass out on a rail!

I have wanted this to happen, but I take no satisfaction in it. It is a painful experience, regardless.

Dumb, Dumb, Dumb, Dumb, Dumb.
Nobody said this will be an immediate return to glory...everyone says its a step in the right direction. Ill bet you have been crying all morning.

With the talent the Vols currently have, if the right coach is hired, I fully expect the Vols to be competitive, if not contend for a championship next season.

expectations can set you up for a world of hurt. see my sig line.

step #1 has occurred. step #2, choosing the new coach, is critical. step #3 is putting together the proper support staff, step #4 is getting the players, and step #5 is putting the package together successfully. things can go wrong at lots of points.

i hope that the timing of this means that some groundwork investigation has already been done, and that soon a great choice for successor will be announced.

Laugh all you want, complain all you want. He may not get the job but I can promise you Brady Hoke of Ball State will be on the list before it is all said and done. He will interview. Track the plane, it will show up in Muncie, IN
