Our AD doesn't have a clue apparently. A direct reflection of the current admin at the University.

I couldn't read the article without subscribing. What's the POV-- that Currie doesn't want to caravan... or that he should force the coaches to do it?

it's an editorial, so there's really no context given as to why there's no caravan. just why everybody sucks since there isn't one. and really, it's not confirmed that there won't be one, just that none of the locals that host the caravan have been contacted about setting it up....and it's April 18th. the Caravan usually happens after spring practice, late April, so if it were going to happen, they probably would/should have already contacted the locals in TRC, MEM, NAS etc....about it.

the pc calls in to question the double talk from Currie about getting out and reconnecting with the fans, grass roots style.

and i'm ok with that.:eek:lol:

couple clips...

Just don't expect those connections to begin at this year's Big Orange Caravan, since — according to longtime Tennessee beat reporter John Brice — there isn't likely to be a Caravan this spring for the first time in 27 years.

Wrote Brice — for the past two seasons a sideline reporter for the Vols Network during football games and a 15-year veteran covering UT athletics — on his new website: "University of Tennessee athletics has no plans to conduct arguably its most fan-friendly series of events this spring for the first time in decades. People familiar with operations in Memphis, Nashville and the Tri-Cities confirmed today that UT has not secured any dates and indicated it is unsure if it will even have a caravan this year."

On the first week of his hiring as Tennessee's athletic director last month, John Currie referred to his first months as the Kansas State AD in 2009:

"We had low confidence, and one of the things we did in the process was getting out there with our fans. There are some similarities between the schools. Tennessee has the Big Orange Caravan, K-State has the Cat Mover, so we got out and about and re-earned trust. So we will do some things over here from an athletics perspective to ensure that the Tennessee faithful and the whole Tennessee family feel like they have a good opportunity to connect and share their passion and feelings."

But to a bigger point, how much longer must a frustrated UT fan base put up with what appears to be a completely tone-deaf administration?

But barring a late reversal regarding the Caravan, the Big Orange Nation at least now knows that while Currie may indeed have only one mouth, he's become pretty good at speaking out of both sides of it.

Thanks!

IDT it has been cancelled. I think they're planning on having it in the summer instead of the spring, with some changes in schedule and activities.

that's the funniest part. no where in that does it confirm that it's not happening.

it's just not happening right now.....so let's build a fire and throw gas all over it....and see what happens?:post-4-1090547912:

That's kind of what I figured. I didn't expect the guy to take the gig on April 1 and have it planned for early May.

Makes more sense to get him in and plan it for over the summer at some point.

UT will put out a statement any minute now in response to kneejerk emails and tweets from outraged fans. The kicker: the fans will be outraged about all different things. All over a non-issue.

I haven't voiced an opinion, positive or negative, regarding the Currie hire, but I will now. I supported Blackburn, he has the pedigree, UT grad, knows all of the players, etc., etc., etc. And I believe he would have help mend numerous wounds from the various factions regarding CFP and CPS.

If this is what Currie is going to do, changing traditions such as the Big Orange Caravan, then I do not support him. The CPF rift will only worsen, as will others over time.

It was bad enough with Hammy, then Hart, now this? Really?!?!?!

:banghead2::realmad:

The first time this douche-nozzle appears in public he should be verbally berated to a point of him walking off of the stage in embarrassment.

I stopped my annual giving via the UT Alumni Association, though quite meager, when Hammy fired CPF in mid season - change was needed but not that way! And I am now considering not renewing with Currie.

i know. the internet is awesome. and when they do schedule the caravan, it'll be because they had to due to all the negative press of not having one.

everybody loses. wake up, rinse, repeat. :eek:lol:

the sad part is that they probably tried to contact UT about the caravan....and they probably asked..."is there going to be a BOC this spring?"

the response was probably something like "we haven't got anything scheduled".

and boom, we have this.

Jimmy Hyams said on Twitter that the big orange caravan would be happening this summer, mainly due to the transition of the AD. Truly no big deal, but you guys want to find anything to whine about.

Ironically, there has been talk of making the Caravan bigger. UT hopes to add cities and stops, as well as work with existing events in key locales to increase attendance and make the coaches accessible to more fans. I know they're working with football camps, which take place during the summer. Good for recruiting, good for fans, good for exposure. Apparently, not good for clickbait.
