RB Recruiting:
Florida offered Darrel Williams. Schedule for visits.
November 23 - UOV to LSU
November 30 - UOV/OV to Florida
January 10 - OV to Tennessee
January 17 - OV to Arizona State
January 31 - OV to LSU
- Others in the mix for OVs are Missouri, Auburn, and Alabama.
- VQ dropped Bo Scarbrough's name as someone we're still recruiting and are in contact with
- Of Law, Williams and Scott which RB do we have the best shot at landing? "I think it's Law in terms of most likely to be a Vol from that trio. I like Law's game. Tough runner with nice speed and balance and has a nice frame to add some weight. Scott is probably a utility guy in the SEC, I like Williams, too. Tough runner and at 222, he has some good speed and mobility. But, I think Law has the most potential if he can qualify." - Fortenberry
- VQ says were still recruiting Brandon Powell, and trying to get an OV
Oline Recruiting:
- Vol74 says Alex Bookser is spending his OV with the Hurd family
- Alex Bookser before visit: Wants to get to know th staff better. Said when he came down last, everyone was really nice. Says UT is one of his favorite school that he hasnt been able to get to often, because of the distance. Says getting to know the staff will be one of his biggest deciding factors. Southern hospitality is one thing that stood out to him. Says the big selling points are that he can see the team is getting better, the class coming in, and the family atmosphere. Of the schools hes considering, he says the thing hes looking forward to is getting to know the players of the team, and the others visiting. Says if he can be comfortable with the players and coaches, that's probably where he will deicde to go to school.
- Bookser said UT really impressed him and the Vols are firmly in the mix. Parents visited with him and distance isnt as big of a factor as it once was. Really liked coach Mahoney and said hes his favorite coach thats recruiting him.
LB Recruiting:
- I like [LSU] a lot, but every school is pretty much even at this point, Garrett said. After I make this last official visit, Ill start considering everything about them, and see where I can see myself going. - LSU Scout
- Would Johnson stay at LB or move to DE at UT? "The way he moves on film makes me think he can stay at LB. I know Tennessee wants him as a LB." - Fortenberry
- Vol74 says Jakob Johnson is spending his OV with the Hurd family
- Jakob Johnson commits to the Vols
Dline Recruiting:
- Vol74 says JUCO DT Owen Williams is spending his OV with the Hurd family
- VQ on Jarran Reed, "He has no leaders. Visited Ole Miss two weeks ago and OV'd to Mississippi State last weekend. Relationship with position coach important to him. Also, academics important. Team is undefeated (11-0) and has a stout defense."
- Fortenberry on Jarran Reed, "I think Tennessee is still in a good position here, but certainly Ole Miss has come on strong and I think he wants to take an official visit to Alabama."
- "Heurtelou is probably still going to visit this weekend. There were some questions as to whether or not last week he would make it in but we talked on Monday and the plan was still for him to come in on Saturday. It's Tennessee and Missouri right now for him." - Fortenberry
- Fortenberry on JUCO Owen Williams, "It's hard not to like where Tennessee is right now with him."
- Fortenberry said right now it looks like Lamin likely sticks with USC.
- Who are the definite JUCO takes at DT right now? "Reed, Lamin, Owen Williams (he is coming in this weekend and bringing some family which is a good sign) and possibly Heurtelou depending on where you feel you are with Reed and Lamin." - Fortenberry
- "Another junior college defensive tackle expected in this weekend is Calvin Heurtelou out Arizona. With the Vols wanting two more junior college defensive linemen it seems Heurtelou is the next target besides Williams, Abu Lamin and Jarran Reed." -VQ
- "Owen Williams is another important visitor this weekend as the Texas Tech commitment will be in Knoxville with several family members like Mosley. Williams is a very important recruit on Tennessee's board as he's one of the few legit junior college defensive targets left on the board for the Vols. The Macon, Ga., native has kept things close to the vest since his commitment to Texas Tech but some involved in his recruitment believe Tennessee has some momentum here and believe a good impression could go a long way to swaying him." - VQ
- JUCO DT Owen Williams flips from Texas Tech to UT
- Charles Mosley said his visit was great. He got to drive the yaucht. Said it was important for his parents to see what hes been seeing all year. Said it was a better experience this week and got to see some academic things he didnt see before. Tennessee is definitely his leader but doesnt have a timetable for a commitment.
ATH Recruiting:
- Dareian Watkins has decommitted from Northwestern and has a top 3 of Wisconsin, Vandy and UT
WR Recruiting:
- Josh Malone signed Financial Aid Agreement with UGA
- VQ says the staff is still in contact with Wesley Green
- Eric Lauderdale is debating on taking an OV to UT
- Fortenberry on Xavier Hawkins, "Tennessee certainly knows who he is but with the limited space left in this class I don't think there will be much going on with him."
DB Recruiting:
- A poster on VQ claims that Adoree Jackson and his parents will visit again. No confirmation
2015 Recruiting:
- Woody Wommack on DT Trenton Thompson, "From Albany, Georgia let me know that he was planning on visiting for the Vanderbilt game, but won't be able to make it because he doesn't have a ride. Thompson is and will be one of the top players in his class when the numerical ranking is released, so this is a guy that Tennessee will surely be trying to get on campus in the future. He's a player to watch for sure."
- CA DE Keisean Lucier per Scout. Recruiting is going good right now, Lucier-South said. Im just getting a lot of letters right now and Im hoping to visit some schools in the spring and summer. I want to check out Texas, Oregon and Washington for sure and maybe Notre Dame and Tennessee.
- Vols offer QB Drew Lock. Says hes been calling Coach Jake ever since his visit to UT, calls him every Tuesday. Coach Jake went to see him play at his district championship game. Said getting the offer was a thrill. Thinks the campus is extremely nice, and the people he met were nice too. I mean, I always watched the SEC, and I always knew Tennessee as a team, Lock said. The year I watched (Bray), he was so skinny. But he put on pounds the next year. And that was kind of me. I was that skinny, tall guy, and I kind of watched him play and I really liked the way he played, so thats why I kind of grew an interest in Tennessee. -247
- SC CB Kaleb Chalmers said he was excited when UT offered. Says we have a great tradition and mention us having the biggest stadium and checkerboard end zone. Plans on visiting USCe, UT, Duke and UGA. Next spring he wants to visit Stanford, UF and FSU
2016 Recruiting:
- NC QB Austin Kendall says hes established a great relationship with the coaches, and thinks thats what triggered his offer. Says his visits were great and loved the atmosphere. They really gave me great feedback, and I like how Coach Jones has really reached out to me, he said. He actually wanted to talk to me on the phone a couple times. Every Wednesday I call, and its real nice talking to him, because he actually communicates with me on the phone. Most coaches maybe wouldnt do that, and I really liked that. - 247
- 2015 ESPN 300 has been released. Heres the VN thread: http://www.volnation.com/forum/tennessee-vols-recruiting/209104-2015-espn-300-a.html
- GA DT Julian Rochester: "Tennessee called my coach and told him they wanted to offer me, then my coach got me on the phone with them so they could tell me about it."It was my first offer and I couldn't believe it to be honest. I did not think I would have offers from schools this early. I thought it would be more like my junior year, so I was very surprised by the offer."I know Tennessee is an SEC school, but I do not know a lot about them yet. They made sure I knew they offered me first, that stood out to me in our quick conversation over the phone." - Scout
Other Notes:
Blue-shirting: This scheme was originated by New Mexico State but has not been practiced widely around the nation. Heres how it works: Officially, a player arrives in the summer as a walk-on. Once football practice begins, hes awarded a scholarship. The school is allowed to count the scholarship forward against the 2015 class but the player can play immediately.
Theres a big catch: The student-athlete may not have been recruited, as defined by NCAA bylaws. That means no official visit to campus, no in-home visits from coaches, no signed National Letter of Intent or athletic aid.
