Current Commit News:

QB Recruiting:
  • Hubbs on Jalan McClesky, "4 scholarship qb's on the roster and three are first or second year players. The depth chart is working against Tennessee. I don't know that signing McClendon is realistic. He's been scheduled to come to a couple of games and hasn't come. I think his mom is very comfortable with him going to NC State."

RB Recruiting:
  • Fortenberry on Derrell Scott, "Right now it's between Tennessee, NC State and South Carolina."

WR Recruiting:

Oline Recruiting:
  • "We are trying to get them all scheduled this week," said Mr. Sharpe, the father. "FSU is this weekend and Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia, and LSU are the others." - Scout on David Sharpe
  • David Sharpe set to OV to the Auburn game.
  • Vols also offer David Sharpe in basketball. Set to OV for Auburn game

LB Recruiting:
  • Fortenberry on Jakob Johnson, "Tennessee is still in it and are still recruiting him. Johnson is still trying to learn about the recruiting process. This is all out of the blue for him and his family."

DB Recruiting:
  • "Don’t be surprised if UT ends up hosting several official visitors for both games. The potential visitors for the Auburn game could include five-star cornerback Adoree’ Jackson of Gardena, Calif., Mixon and Lamin, who remains committed to South Carolina but has indicated that the Vols are likely to get his final official visit." - 247
  • Is there any validity whatsoever to the berry twins walking on at UT? Any credible source? "There is NO ONE offering any validity to that suggestion." - Hubbs
  • Is Adoree Jackson still visiting for the Auburn game? "As of this afternoon he was still expected to be in." - Rob Lewis
  • JC Shurburtt thinks the Berry twins will grayshirt

Dline Recruiting:
  • "Don’t be surprised if UT ends up hosting several official visitors for both games. The potential visitors for the Auburn game could include five-star cornerback Adoree’ Jackson of Gardena, Calif., Mixon and Lamin, who remains committed to South Carolina but has indicated that the Vols are likely to get his final official visit." - 247
  • Andrew Williams' top schools are Auburn, Ole Miss, Clemson, South Carolina, and Notre Dame.
  • "Tennessee continues to be a big factor for Lamin, but it may come down to whether or not his mother makes it to town. She's a big reason Lamin is committed to South Carolina as Columbia, S.C., is only about two hours away from Lamin's hometown of Fayetteville, N.C." - VQ
  • (JUCO DT Owen Williams) "Williams is an interesting name in that he's another junior college defensive lineman the Vols are after. Although he's committed to Texas Tech and did so recently he still wants to give the Vols a look. Bringing in Williams is just more conformation that Tennessee wants two junior college defensive tackles in this class." - VQ

ATH Recruiting:
  • Blaise Taylor's top schools "Auburn, Tennessee, Stanford and then Baylor," Taylor said. "Auburn and Tennessee have offered." - Scout
  • Elliott Berry - "I can see the light at the end of the tunnel," Berry said. "A lot of people feel like I'm already committed so I'm not sure anything will change." - VQ

2015 Recruiting:
  • NC OL Mason Veal says he enjoyed his visit and loved seeing the former players during VFL weekend. Atmosphere stood out to him. Top 3 are probably UNC, USC and Clemson. Wants to stay close to home. Liked catching up with Justus Pickett (who played at the same HS)
  • Vols offer FL LB De'Amontae Jackson. Says we are sending a lot of letters and trying to get him on the phone. Would like to visit.
  • MI DE Joshua Alabi per Scout - “Tennessee is my No. 1. But after that, I really love Michigan. I really love Michigan State. I love*Ohio State. I love*Wisconsin. So like, it’s kind of a tossup.”
  • FL TE Garrett Williams top 3 of FSU, Clemson, UT
  • Vols offer MS S Jamal Peters
  • Vols early leader for 2015 4-star DT Keiron Howard
  • CJ Sanders - One school he'll take into consideration is Tennessee. Sanders has already visited the Vols for a game this season and liked what he saw and is just happy to Tennessee and others recruiting him. "It's awesome," Sanders said of Tennessee. "It's a nice feeling to have those kind of schools want you to be a part of their program. It's awesome to be in this position." - VQ

JC Shurburtt thinks the Berry twins will grayshirt

What exactly does grayshift mean? I've heard it mentioned in other threads but never understood. Thanks :hi:

You delay enrollment until December, therefore not starting your eligibility clock. It leaves you the option to additionally redshirt the following year. It is not a technical term, but more an unofficial term. It allows schools to oversign as a grayshirt candidate is essentially an early enrollee for the following year's class.

Seriously, make this some kind of special article in the recruiting section that can be subscribed to independently. Don't know how long POA can keep it up, but these are fantastic.

It means they don't enroll until January 2015, so they don't cost a scholarship, but wouldn't play in 2014.

Shurburtt doesn't think the Berrys' talent is up to par with the bulk of this recruiting class, and that Jones would hate to burn spots when he had more talented options available, so he was guessing they'd redshirt.
