Weekend Storylines

On a side note, UK has a chance to make a name for themselves this weekend as well. I look for the Cats and the Cards to put on a pretty good show.
yeah, that game is getting hotter and hotter as Sat. approaches. while i generally root for the SEC consistently across the board in ooc games, there something very uneasy about the prospect of KY beating a top 10 L'ville team, and a roundball is not involved.

Mich. wins 4-0.

Jimmy "NC" Clausen goes down in the zone twice. One more loss and an 0-4 Notre Dame is getting closer to not securing Lil' Jimmies first of 4 titles.

But they will still win the ND- Service Academies Conference title.

I would think 9-3 and 10-3 is better than 10-3 and 5-7.

The difference is that Weis got his big extension after his first season. If you look at Weis' first season compared to Willingham's, I'd say Tyrone's was much more impressive.

Since I haven't seen hat post his usual post-weekend headlines, I'll follow up on his points...

1. One and Armaged-done. Since the SEC went to divisional play in 1992, the loser of the Tennessee-Florida game has appeared in the SEC championship game only twice. The season will be essentially over for someone by 8 pm Saturday.
Well... Yeah.

2. 0-3's Company. Notre Dame and Michigan meet in Misery Bowl '07. The names suggest greatness. The records suggest Idaho versus Rice.
Some are actually calling it sickening how Weis is not on the hot seat yet, but Ty Willingham was fired for having teams that were at least okay. Racism? Who knows. Probably not. Weis has that Superbowl pedigree. But Notre Dame doesn't seem to have any real shot of winning any of their next five games.

Hello, Domers. You're now below the level of national irrelevance. You're Temple.

3. On The Other Hand. While Notre Dame wanders aimlessly, Tyrone Willingham has Washington on the upswing. A Huskie victory over the Buckeyes would expedite the return to relevance in Seattle.
A telling story for both teams in this game. I think Tyrone's got what it takes to be a winner at UDub. The school's recruiters now just need to start pulling their weight in California.

As for tOSU, their offense is terrible. The defense, however, is as good as ever, and with Big Ten playing some of the worst football in its history, it could carry tOSU to the Rose Bowl.

4. Back to the Future. Nebraska gets a shot a announcing their return to contender status. A Husker win over USC would help justify Bill Callahan's new extension and raise.
Well, didn't look to good for the children of the corn. However, in the Big XII North, there's no reason to be hasty about firing a head coach. He may still be the right guy.

5. Closing Time. Al Groh is in real trouble at UVA. A loss to North Carolina would seal his future termination.
The Cavs barely escaped with their lives from Chapel Hill. I think Groh already lost his job when he got blown out of the water by Wy-freaking-oming. Another career-ender looms on the horizon for Virginia when the Cavs head to Murfreesboro to take on MTSU.

6. O, Brother. Ed Orgeron is unquestionably on the hot seat. If the Cajun Caveman wants to remain the head Reb, beating teams like Vanderbilt is imperative.
Coach O's gone. The loss to Vanderbilt hurt, but Croom's boys taking out Auburn hurt more.

7. Worst. Game. of. the. Year. Oklahoma appears to be as good as anyone. Utah State is certainly as bad as anyone. Their game in Norman Saturday has all the makings of a 77-3 classic.
Close enough on the score. Oklahoma is certainly 1c along with USC at 1a and LSU at 1b.

8. It's Now or Never. Jim Harbaugh is trying to breathe life into Stanford Football. If the Cardinal don't handle San Jose State, 0-12 will be staring them squarely in the eye.
Unless the academic standards change, Stanford will never be good again. They are an Ivy League struggling to stay afloat in a BCS conference. They may as well keep Jim Harbaugh, because I can't see them getting any better beyond 2-3 wins a season.

9. Times They Are A Changin'. Arkansas has parlayed Alabama's coaching deficiencies into a nice run against the Tide. Nick Saban gets the chance to reverse that trend in a Saturday night's reprise of one of the most consistently entertaining series in college football.
And it was certainly entertaining again. Although Arkansas seems like it could be on the verge of having its own string of coaching deficiencies.

10. I Went Down To The Crossroads. Florida State and Colorado meet Saturday night in Boulder. The winner gets some momentum and hope. The loser takes up residence in College Football's Abyss for the remainder of the season.
Probably not... Colorado is simply not a talented football team, and it looks like FSU will continue to flounder in the middle of the ACC as long as Bobby Bowden is the coach.

The Buffs have a long road ahead of them if they wish to get back to national relevance. They need to set up a recruiting market somewhere, either California or Texas if they want to succeed.

Harbaugh just breathed life into Stanford Football
