A few things that stuck out to me:

-Larry Slade said that Eric Berry is as good as anyone he has had at this point.

-Brandon Warren was seen at practice. He doesn't look to be in very good football shape.

-I don't think we will see Kenny O'Neal until the scrimmage. He really stood out early, but it makes you wonder if he will get passed by due to the valuable time he is losing not being able to practice.

-Creer, Vereen, and Hawkins. One of those guys is going to have to be our 3rd guy, although Cut also mentioned Olasimbo and Kevin Cooper. It was interesting to hear Coach Cut refer back to his last true freshman backs in his prior stint with the Tennessee - "Little Man" Stewart and Aaron Hayden. We could actually run the football back in those days.

Slade saying Berry is as good as he's ever had is saying a lot. Warren not being in football shape? He better get in shape by next season, we might need him. Creer and Vereen are the future of UT. I'd like to see them both step up.

The Brandon Warren situation is truly a shame..... if only he had signed with UT to begin with.

From the reports, the news that has my attention is the improvement of Walter Fisher, and the intensity of the drills between the OL and the DL. It seems as though the physical nature of the spring practices is already paying dividends.

If Mapu, Bolden, Williams and Fisher are ready to play, this team will not have to score 30 points a game to win.

I am also interested to see what happens with Adam-Myers-White. To me he was one of my favorite recruits in the 2004 class. UT should be set at LB for years to come.

Is he trying to say he is just as good or better than Jason Allen was right now? Or is he saying that he has the potential to be?

I thought Cooper was recruited as a FB/HB. Are they trying him at RB?

Thats kind of what I was wondering too. Was Slade trying to say that Berry is as good or better than anyone we have ever had at any point in their carreer, or was he saying that he is as good or better than any true freshman we have ever had?

I'm going to go with the tools that he has shown. It is very hard for me to believe that he is as good right now as anyone else we have had in that type of position was during their best year. That is just too much to expect out of a true freshman. I'm willing to bet that he means his intangibles + tangibles point to him being as good as anyone he as seen. That is still a big statement.

I think this is probably the correct interpretation of Slade's words.

At the same time, Fulmer had praise for freshman defensive back Eric Berry and was encouraged by the work of freshman running backs Lennon Creer, Daryl Vereen and Josh Hawkins.
“They got a ton of reps, and they will continue (to do so),” Fulmer said of the running backs. “That’s part of our youth showing up.
“Yesterday, they were a little tentative, not knowing what to expect, but today they got their pads down to protect themselves and ran a lot harder. It was definitely different for them.”
Secondary coach Larry Slade said Berry is as good as he’s seen.
“He’s a playmaker. He’s got outstanding speed. He’s tough as nails. All of those qualities that you find in an outstanding player,” Slade said of the Fairburn, Ga., product.
“(He’s) as good as anyone I’ve had. He’s come in very well prepared. If you didn’t know it, you’d think he was an upperclassman. He’s ahead of most of the freshmen we have.”

Heat moves Vols, leaves Fulmer fuming with ‘youth’

Agree, the line play is the key to success, and based on what we've been hearing I'm optimistic. I can't wait to get back to Tennessee football and winning the battles in the trenches. With that area shored up, and the influx of talent we have at the skill positions, our program could be back on the rise.

Freak, I meant to ask you but do you have a press pass and get into part of practice or what?

Has it been as hot in Knoxville as it has in Tuscaloosa? 102 Tuesday, 103 Wednesday, 103 projected for today and 104 tomorrow. Yowza!

I agree w/ Lex on AMW. He was def. one of my favorite recruits. When he got here they said with his frame and work ethic he could be the next Kevin Burnette.
