Bryce Thompson was in pads and a helmet, but he didn’t participate in any contact drills. Safeties Micah Abernathy and Trevon Flowers appeared fine. Wideout Jauan Jennings also was moving well, as his ankle continues to progress. Ty Chandler was still wearing a big knee brace but the sophomore did not appear limited.

JJ Peterson was over with the inside linebackers, while Kivon Bennett was back with the OLB unit. Also, redshirt freshman Solon Page was working at safety.

Jennings had a drop and Jarrett Guarantano nearly threw a pick, but the rest of the session was flawless. Josh Palmer and Jennings both had nice touchdowns on corner routes. David Johnson did holler at freshman Cedric Tillman twice — wanting him to run through the route.

Thompson suffered a head injury against Kentucky and, based on Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt's comments earlier this week, is in concussion protocol, clouding his availability for Saturday's game against Missouri.

On Wednesday, Thompson went through one set of agility drills with the cornerbacks, but did not partake in a light-contact drill when the cornerbacks worked on taking cut blocks. He again did some running and jogging. And during the scout-team period, Thompson essentially was shadowing his position with both groups that rolled through the session.

It does appear the Vols will have Trevon Flowers back from his five-game absence due to a collarbone injury suffered in practice during the open date. The freshman safety has gone through drills normally this week. Pruitt suggested on Monday the Vols were expecting to have Flowers against Missouri.

it was Theo Jackson working at safety alongside Nigel Warrior, Micah Abernathy and Shawn Shamburger at the slot cornerbacks positions and Alontae Taylor and Baylen Buchanan at the outside cornerback spots.

Tennessee had freshman linebacker JJ Peterson doing some double duty on Wednesday. During position drills, Peterson was with the inside linebackers. During the defense's scout-team period, though, he was repping at outside linebacker.

The freshman Banks did not play in the Kentucky game and appears to be dealing with an ankle injury as his foot was noticeably taped. Chandler continues to wear a brace on his left knee.

I like Solon Page working at safety. Just isn't big enough to play LB at this level, particularly not in Pruitt's defense.

Any information on the scrimmages involving the 3s and 4s? Any players standing out or getting attention?

Interesting about Kivon Bennett working with outside linebackers. He surprised me by playing well against Kentucky in limited action. Looks like Pruitt may be trying to find more ways to get him on the field.
