Patrick Brown: Fairly redundant from #Vols practice: Jalen Hurd, Josh Malone, Marquez North, Owen Williams all in non-contact jerseys. Marlin Lane went.

Fast Five
1. Vols practiced inside in shorts
2. Hurd still in green, Lane didn't look 100%, Young absent. Scott, Pickett and Summerhill are the only backs 100% healthy.
3. North and Malone in green.
4. Owen Williams in green
5. Much of practice spent on special teams.

The Vols were heavy on special teams work in their first three periods of practice, with Evan Berry continuing to look like he'll be in great position to not only handle kickoff return duties in the absence of the injured Devrin Young, who is not practicing with cracked ribs, but make a statement to remain one of the team's deep backs the remainder of the season. It's important to note both Berry twins, Evan and Elliot, were standout AAU track performers with fellow freshman D'Andre Payne and coveted recruit Justin Martin, the JuCo corner at Northeast Oklahoma for whom the Vols lead.

Defensively, the Vols worked Chris Weatherd and more to get as much speed on the field in key situations, be that strictly in defensive packages or even sometimes on special teams.

JANCEK: Ole Miss has a big OL, LT is outstanding. They have a trio of backs who can present problems. They have Tight Ends who are athletic.
JANCEK: Bo Wallace keeps the chains moving. That's his MO
JANCEK: I can't say I am surprised by being 8th in the country in TFLs. We just keep working hard.

AZZANNI: Johnathon Johnson has a unique skills set. I have said since Day 1 that he's one of our best WRs. He's one of the best we have.
AZZANNI: Pearson was a little rusty last week. He's still learning the system. He's gotten better and better this week.

GILLESPIE: I thought Derrell Scott did a few good things. Good pad level. This week will be another jump for him, an SEC opponent.
GILLESPIE: Young guys have to step up and play through (injuries). Great teams have enough depth and tough players who have to play through

STRIPLING: We played 12 DLinemen last week. miller and Hendrix really stepped up. Good to see them get quality reps.

BAJAKIAN: Ole Miss has a ton of experience. They return 9 of 11 starters. They play with great speed and great passion.

MAHONEY: (on OL) I have told them that Saturday was unacceptable. We need to play well as a group. There are things we need to clean up.
MAHONEY: I don't think our group's confidence level is high right now. I tell them to block it all out. But they have to play better.
MAHONEY: Ole Miss is as big a challenge as we will have.

Wow the o lines confidence isnt high? No way the 100 threads about them impacts them at all...........

If they need Volnation to shake their confidence, and can't already see the problem by looking at Worley's battered body, then they're blind.

Hmm. That might just explain their blocking...

I think many have been looking for this statement below. Now that we have it not sure I feel any better. It's like the wife apologizing but you know you'll still lose elsewhere.

One of the biggest things this young OL needs is confidence. They're not bad players they just play like they're beat from the start. They played well against UGA. We need one of these big wins for them to get the message "you're just as good as these guys"

I said after the UF game that while spotty the oline has played well enough for us to win every game. That whole offense as a unit needs some guys to step up. Whomever but there have been mistakes across the board at all positions.

Lane/Peterman exchange?

North tripping or whomever and Worley pick?

WR'S have dropped balls and failed to get seperation. While Worley has had good reason for some issues he's also not been without fault. Oline is definately the bigger issue but hardly the only issue.

Line playing well doesn't mean 6-0 or even 5-1 for the reasons you said but its mostly the issue.

Everything else would look better if the line played better. Worley has more time in the pocket means that he's more likely to hit open receivers and less likely to make bad decisions. A better running game means more open receivers (plus a better running game). Sure, everybody screws up sometimes. It's just that the oline effects every aspect of the offense in a way that nobody else besides maybe Worley does.

Agreed. But they are the weak link and will have to have help. If we want to win.

Green jerseys are just precautionary, I believe I have seen where all green jerseys will play with the exception of Lane....

Agree....but they need to put big boy pants on now. Put extra work in both at skills and film. Build some confidence and go play Tennessee football. Either step up or step out.

It is a little funny that Mahoney said they are having trouble blocking it out. Poor phrasing.
