They took the long ball option away from Tyler Bray. He depends too much on it and aside from the NC State game, it hasn't done much for us.

The long ball takes too long develop and he spends his whole read looking for it to open up that be misses the 10-15 yard routes right in front of him that are much more wide open. Basically, by eliminating the long ball, it should give him much more visibility and time to hit Rivera, Rogers, CP, Hunter, etc out in the flat, across the middle, on a come back etc.

But.... it's a lot easier just to chunk one up 45 yards down field and pray hunter or cp catch it... smh

That's not a Bray problem, that's a Chaney problem. Bray throws an accurate, beautiful deep ball, but when it's called on 3rd and short, it makes Bray look bad too.

This.

It also seems to me like the only long balls you see Bray throw anymore are to the sidelines. I don't know if these are designed plays and Chaney just loves sending his recievers down the sidelines or what, but that last time I really feel like I saw Bray throw a bomb down the middle was NC State

CJC does call the plays. He does NOT tell Tyler where to throw the ball. Just about every time you have 1-2 guys going deep, there are 2-3 options short as well. Tyler just as an issue with refusing to throw the shorter routes. 3rd and 1 he could throw the fade, the TE on a 6 yard out, the slot guy on a 8 yard slant, or the RB out of the backfield for an easy 2 yard pickup and a 1st down. It is not on CJC when Bray just does not bother to look for the short 1st down throw. He has always been a "gunslinger" and looked to always throw deep. It IS on the coaches for not benching him when he continues to do this.

Sidelines because there is less chance for interception like over the middle. That's a Chaney thing.

Yeah and that's what I figured, and maybe it's just the Basketball player in me, but I've always seen the sidelines as another defender

CDD makes as many of the 3rd n short long pass calls as CJC, because DD is obsessed with trying to make "the big play" using Bray's arm instead of going for the short gains that will keep a drive going.

Yep - this is it.

Slow developing routes have plagued this team since Chaney has started calling plays.

I doubt you will have to worry about the long ball being thrown much today unless they go max protect and only send out two WRs. Once TB hears footsteps he slings it somewhere, mostly out of bounds.

We would have a better chance to win if we could bring back Reggie White, Al Wilson , Leonard Little, Jon Henderson Eric Berry and Dale Carter. That's impossible, it is possible for our current players to play with the heart, desire, and the will to win that those past Vol greats possessed. Wow! that last word contained four s's ! :salute:
