We the People Will Build the Beautiful Steel Slat Barrier

We pay more for tariffed goods you dolt. We also pay taxes on said higher priced goods, ergo - we pay twice. If you had money in the markets, thrice. Not to mention hurting their economy is not going to make the people not want to come here.

Its dumb, but that's what you get from a game show host.

@Septic with the high heat today.

Don’t impose tariffs.
Impose a 50 percent tax on any money moves from us to Mexico via western union or any other money transfer business.

This would cripple Mexico quickly and have zero effect on us economy.

Taxing money transfers back to Mexico, Honduras, etc is very similar to cutting off the money going back to drug dealers. It's far more damaging to them than intercepting the drugs. However, I'm guessing that regardless of banking laws and how wired the NSA has things, we don't have that hole plugged because the drug dealers don't seem to be missing their payments. If they are relying on the old ways ... across the border smuggling; that's a condemnation of our failure to secure the border. Maybe we should build a wall or something.

I agree the importers pay the tariff and pass it on for those goods.

The initial impact is increased cost on imports. The long term impact though (which is the originally intention of tariffs) is to raise the price of imports so domestic products can compete.

Will it work? If the tariffs last long enough yes people will begin buying a better product that is more expensive then the made in China or Mexico products that used to be half the price. But this is a long term tactic that only works if stuck to and used to increase increase domestic products. If the domestic product goes up the increase in payroll here will funnel into the economy that way.

Is it a tax on Mexico? No.

Do other counties put insane tariffs on our products to make their products more attractive? Yes. Numerous countries hsve tariffs on our goods and some don’t even allow our manufacturing plants on their soil.

Canada imposes tariffs on all us dairy and poultry. Why? To screw their people or force them to buy Canadian dairy products to help stabilize local farmers and keep people working?

This tariff issue is not black and white. It is honestly muddy and has a ton of moving parts that do more than just a or b.

We can debate tariffs all day but we cannot break it down to something as simple as just it increases goods cost.

LMAO! That’s a lot of angst generated by a flippant lead in line to post the article. You gonna be ok? 😂

Can't be. Remember every time the GOP tries to decrease corporate tax, it only benefits the company ... the savings according to Dims are never ever passed on to the consumer. Therefore, the consumer never pays taxes for a corporation (and face it a tariff is a tax). Maybe dem libs are just lyin' through their teeth, and just think everybody but them should pay taxes, but how anyone can get around the thought that the consumer ultimately pays for a tax (including tariffs) of any kind really puts a really bid dent in their argument.

The way I see this particular tariff argument is something like "you can pay inside or you can pay at the pump." We could have kept manufacturing here with higher prices and had a lot of positive economic (and environmental) benefits, or off shored for lower sales prices and caused ourself s lot of economic (and environmental) damage. Perhaps we should have done some real introspection and realized that government meddling like supporting unions over corporations and constantly implementing/raising minimum wages were self inflicted harm that generally priced the US out of the world market.

As far as this particular tariff against Mexico goes. It doesn't matter if we consider it the carrot or the stick ... and of short term damage to consumers. The fact is that we have little other than armed conflict to press Mexico into helping us secure our borders. It's really not a simple matter of people looking for a better life; it really is a matter of security from terrorism, disease, drugs, and other evils, too.

News Flash:

House Democrats announced today they are seeking warrants and injunctions to shut down "unlicensed and possibly dangerous food sellers". They are particularly interested in underage workers saying, "this criminal activity leads to human trafficking and abuse of children and cannot be tolerated in a country which builds the infrastructure necessary to allow business to thrive without destroying the environment or morals of children."

It's a real Catch 22. You can't vet somebody if you don't know who they are. The people with borrowed, stolen, or kidnapped kids can't very well identify themselves or the kids, so that should lead to a dead end. Unfortunately that's were libs jump in and talk about kids separated from parents and kids being poorly handled and kids dying (of diseases they came with). Maybe the problem in trying to reunite kids and parents is simply that the kids and parents were never together in the first place. Libs have a hard time figuring out they've been scammed ... that's how so many socialist paradises began.

Amazes me the cognitive dissidence they buy into...
