I keep seeing threads about how we needed to swing for the fences and hire an established or big name coach, and I feel like I've been hearing this for years now.

Let me remind y'all of some of the coaches we tried to get:
-Jon Gruden
-Dan Mullen
-Mike Gundy
-Chip Kelly
-Charlie Strong (when we fired Dooley and arguably the best HC candidate during that off season)

I'm not saying these guys will be great coaches when it's all said and done, but you could consider them established coaches when they were candidates.

Either y'all don't want to remember or don't want to accept it, but we tried going after big names, even offered them big money, and they still all turned us down.

Honestly the last legitimate shot at a established was Gary Patterson or even Leach and we squandered those opportunities.

You can either focus on what we don't have or work with what we do have for the time being, because we haven't proven yet that we're going to get a big time coach, despite how much we want to believe we deserve it.

I've been a die hard UT fan for over thirty years, and seeing this is heartbreaking. My wife and I went to the WSU v NMST state game last night, and I still wore my UT gear proudly. One gal thought I was repping Texas, but I'll save that for later. As we were sitting through the player introductions, the one thing that struck me was all of the starters, except one, had been in the program for at least three years. And quite a few of them were redshirted. I'm not necessarily comparing our program to WSU, or Leach to Pruitt. I'm simply trying to say that it's going to take time. We may not know what we have in Pruitt or this team until it becomes "his team", and that may take a couple more years. GB🍊

100% agree. We can't go through another change in coaching regime right now. Hell, we can't afford it, especially after Barnes' new contract. I honestly think that's why we even cheaped out on the new Lady Vols HC. Moreover, all the fans that are clamoring for a boycott or to stop supporting UT are not worth having as fans. Do you not see how you are further hurting this University? We all have a right to be mad, but Pruitt and Co. are our guys right now like it or not. Let's hope they can turn it around. At the end of the day, this is just one game--probably the worst loss in our history, but just one game. Maybe it's the kick in the ass they needed. Either way, it's Pruitt and his seat isn't even lukewarm right now.

Jon Gruden was never coming here, it is silly to list his name. He isn't coaching in college. We had legitimate shots at Mullen and Strong as well as Patterson. Quit pretending a real coach wouldn't come here if we offered enough money but for some strange reason Vol fans get offended if we were to pay 8-10 million for a coach. Instead we pay 4-5 for average coaches and then fire them 4 years later.

No his seat is red hot after his coaching malpractice in the worst loss in program history.

Pruitt fielded a passionless emotionless team of zombies with a coaching staff to match. There was no fire passion or intensity. I still don’t know WTH the last 2 minutes of the 1st half was all about trying to run out the clock in a TIE GAME vs a 26 pt underdog Sunbelt team. Who was going to receive the 2nd half kickoff.

There’s no sugarcoating this beatdown. We didn’t lose on some fluke play. Instead we let GA ST expose the winning game plan against us for the entire season. All we can do now is try to plug the holes in a leaking dam. Every team is going to execute the same game plan vs us every week unless our coaching staff makes radical changes. I wouldn’t hold my breath

Who do you think comes here for 8M a year? Give me a serious name, that you think will actually come, has proven to be worth 8M a year, and his current school will not match!!!! You might get a Malzahn or Harbaugh type who have not shown their worth and their schools would like to get out of their contracts.

Any good coach UT had a chance at grabbing was nullified because of the hiring authorities feelings and misaligned moral compass. Majors was the last home run hire, plain and simple. Everything else has been dumb luck and bargain basement dollar tree half off special tier.

Money talks. Always.

Sorry, but I refuse to live in denial. We know. We just have to accept another coaching debacle by the administration.

Agree and disagree, can’t afford coaching change. However Lady Vols coach was good hire and Pruitt seat is flaming. Example- Pruitt plan was to led TN back and then go after Bama job after Saban retires. That plan had a massive explosion yesterday.

Name a team in the SEC, whose coach would not be feeling the heat for losing to Georgia State at home.
