I keep seeing threads about how we needed to swing for the fences and hire an established or big name coach, and I feel like I've been hearing this for years now.
Let me remind y'all of some of the coaches we tried to get:
-Jon Gruden
-Dan Mullen
-Mike Gundy
-Chip Kelly
-Charlie Strong (when we fired Dooley and arguably the best HC candidate during that off season)
I'm not saying these guys will be great coaches when it's all said and done, but you could consider them established coaches when they were candidates.
Either y'all don't want to remember or don't want to accept it, but we tried going after big names, even offered them big money, and they still all turned us down.
Honestly the last legitimate shot at a established was Gary Patterson or even Leach and we squandered those opportunities.
You can either focus on what we don't have or work with what we do have for the time being, because we haven't proven yet that we're going to get a big time coach, despite how much we want to believe we deserve it.
