Or the SEC East, or the (insert any other qualification here really)

But we, as fans, still have the ability to be the best fanbase in the nation. This not only encourages the team on the field that we have right now, but shows future recruits that we're the program that they should want to play for. We support our team through ups and downs (even very extended downs like we're in right now).

I've seen enough negativity on here and other mediums around that I think it's time to come out and say something. As a former UT student-athlete, I experienced ups and downs, and seen fans stay with us through most. When they didn't, it hurt. Bad. You never want to feel like people have given up on you. Sports are a funny thing - the phrase 'Any Given Sunday' has some true merit, and crazy things happen over the course of a season.

I'll be there on Saturday with my group of converted UT supporters being our loudest, and I truly hope that any of you on the fence about attending the game will decide that it's worth the trip. Not only to support our guys, and possibly witness a (very unprobably) upset, but to show the country that Vol Nation is not a fairweather bunch.

Go Vols.

I think the OP misinterprets the negativity of the fans.

After all if they were fair-weather, they would simply go away (or turn off the TV) and not come back until there was winning.

We have one of the most passionate fan bases in the nation, but passion runs both ways. They are elated when UT wins and they are disgusted when they lose. Their passion is proven by the fact that they speak out and keep coming back to speak out even more while fair weather fans just go away and pay attention to something else that suits them.

Trust me, it takes dump trucks full of pride and loyalty to have stuck with this team the last 7 or 8 years.

Please do not discount the negativity otherwise you will be discounting the most passionate part of our fan base. Nobody wants the Vols to win more than they do.

EXCELLENT POST!!!

I wish more of our former and current student-athletes would speak up like kerph32 has. It's nice to know that we as fans do make a difference.

GBO!!!

The UF game (checkerboard Neyland) and the Ole Miss game (huge Vol contingent) clearly demonstrate the support of this fanbase. I don't think fan support is the problem or will be a problem. Given how starved the fans have been for a quality on-field product, it might behoove the AD to do some type of fan appreciation deal (e.g. Slash concessions prices or something).

All my wife knows in the 5 years we've been together is that I have drank a lot on Saturdays in the fall. You know that angry, pissed, why do we still suck drinking. Shes going to be in for a treat when we start winning again!

If your only discussions or info about Vol football are from here, then most of what you will read is going to be flaming of everyone and everything!

Hell just saw on the coaches hotseat site that Saban is on the hot seat???:blink:

I bet after the Ole Miss loss, the bammer forums where worse than this one! Spelling there is probably not to good either. :)

Always remember that many of the posters here are anonymous, ultra negative flamers, and trolls for other teams.

Ha... so funny and true. I've been married for 7 years this month and I keep telling my wife to hold on, the good times are coming!

My husband (together not quite four years) thinks I'm a complete lunatic.

Fortunately, we were stuck behind an Ole Miss fan on a two hour flight Wednesday who never once shut up about football, Hotty Toddy, college days, or the SEC in general. I now look like a model of serenity.

edit: freakin' spellcheck
