We Lost but...

Yeah well, he turns the ball over a lot, averages 15 a game and his replacement scored 29. And in postgame, Rick Barnes basically said the same thing I did. What a fool our coach is, right?
Nah man I agree, our luck really sucks that we had to play LSU without their best player. We would have won for sure had he played. By the way how many ppg does his replacement average? You use that as reason he did better than what waters would have but I’d be willing to bet the freshman doesn’t average 29 ppg so that whole line of thinking is nullified.

Smart averages 10 a game. He got 29. Mays averages 13, he got 24. I think they’re happy Waters didn’t play and dominate the ball the entire game. He most likely would have had to score over 30 even IF those two get their averages to equal the scoring those two did on their own. There’s only one ball.

Backup QBs taking us to the woodshed or backup guards tearing us a new one....it's something UT fans just come to expect.

These two LSU guys played the best game of their college careers today but LSU would have been better sitting one of them most of the game and playing Waters. That’s what you’re saying.

What I’m saying is this. Waters is the better player of the 3, yes they had their best games today, who is to say waters would not have had his best game of his career today? You say waters only averages 15 points a game and the freshman had 29 so we would have been better off playing waters? The way the math really works is that freshman averages about 4 ppg, he scored 29 today so that’s what? About 7 times his average? Therefore waters would have scored 105 points today!! Do I really think this? Of course not, but that line of thinking is no dumber than just assuming waters would not have gone above his average today as well. Unless your just assuming that the freshman just went nuts today and it had nothing to do with our matchups/defense? If that’s the case then fine, it’s totally speculative and you could be right, however when I look at the body of evidence it tells me we were not a good matchup for their guards today...following that line of logic waters would have more than likely had a hell of a game as well. No one will ever be able to prove one way or another, I just can’t believe that some people actually think we would have been better off playing possibly the best PG in the country as opposed to his back up that is a freshman. To each their own though that’s just my line of thinking.

Williams needs to get a 3 ball in his game- he doesnt have the size underneath and teams have adjusted to it

Check the LSU stats. Your ignorance is showing. Smart, a 5 star recruit, averages 10 a game in 26 minutes. He’s a 3rd guard and far from a backup PG averaging 4 a game. Mays averages 13, and got 23. Waters has been a problem at times this year for them. They didn’t miss him a bit.

So one averages 10 a game and got 29 the other averages 13 and got 23, but the guy who averages 15 would have only gotten his 15? Your right, I do feel ignorant. I bow to your understanding of everything. Please forgive me.

I tell you who else should feel ignorant besides just me.. that’s their coach for starting potentially the point guard of the year over that freshman all season. They are clearly a better team with the freshman getting the minutes, makes you wonder why he would do something dumb like that doesn’t it?

So you finally agree. They may be better with a 6-4, 5 star, top 33HS player freshman at PG than a 5-10 ball hog? And you thought Smart was a backup PG averaging 4 pts a game!

Are we just in a temporary slump or did we peak in January?

LOL!!! There is no "temp." A win is a win. A loss is a loss. UT lost. Against a decent team. Name one great team other then Gonzaga they've beat all year? ZERO. And don't say tournament bid teams because we aren't looking for them to be a tournament bid team. Final Four or bust is the expectations for this team.

Right now, this team will struggle to get the sweet 16, and have the fight of their lives to get to the elite eight.

Complete choke job today. "Maybe it will make them stronger." But that's the same BS we heard after the Kentucky blowout.

Still waiting for a great win against a team that isn't Gonzaga....I'll wait...and make sure not to hold my breath.

And beating a potential 6, 7 or 9 seed is not a great win, at home or on the road.

Quit whining. Vols played an excellent game - point guard with flu and Schofield beat up and kept coming back. The crowd was maniacal and it was an intense game start to finish. In a game like this free throw shooting has to be almost perfect and UT bricked some critical ones. Anyway the team is nationally relevant and let's see what the next week holds. Win those 2 and they are back in the top 5. The SEC is exceptionally tough top to bottom this year which may help in the NCAA tournament. I thought Barnes did a nice player rotation in first half and kept Alexander from fouling out. The last play in overtime was amazing getting the full court pass into the front court which could have been one of the highlights of the year if it went in. Playing a helluva road game and losing like this bothers me less than the debacle at UK.

Excuses...not so great come March. Unless you're that guy at that bar who would've got a scholarship, or would've gone pro if is wasn't for....[fill in the blank excuse]

Your best? Winners go home and F the prom queen.

You can lead a horse to water. Turner doesn't need to be taking anymore 3's. Hell he missed the entire rim inside the 10" mark once and both free throws. This has been going on for at least the last 3 games. He didn't pass inside to Fulky against Vandy when Fulky had a good look to the basket but tried to make a long shot. He tried to make game winning shot today also. I don't think it's even a toss up between him and Bowden because I favor Bowden but I surely don't understand 3 guards in the game at the same time because we give up too much size. Force Turner and Bowden to get their touch back when we are ahead by twenty and then only. Those 2 not playing up to their potential is going to cost UT again soon. Alexander plays well but the refs get inside his head too much. If they just called the game fairly he could adjust. I've never seen more inconsensities in foul calling than I have these past 2 weeks. I'm in favor of coach Barnes just pulling the team from the game if this continues. It's that bad IMHO.

So you want a 36% career 3point shooter to not shoot anymore 3’s? That’s a great idea, want Admiral and Bowden to stop shooting 3’s too?

LSU was probably better against Tennessee without Waters. Smart wouldn’t have had the ball near as much in his hands

I'm not saying LSU was better w/o a great player like Waters. Many times teams collapse when they lose a key player. Remember the day we waxed UK for 30+ after Nerlins Noel got hurt.

But, in team sports there are interesting things that can happen when the "caste system" pecking order gets altered like that. All of a sudden, a guy(s) who just accepted a role on a team are called on. And BAM those "secondary" players show what they can do when unfettered. Their focus and determination is sometimes boosted.

A couple of examples come immediately to mind like the day McBee, Woodridge(4 threes), and Maze etc took down the mighty #1 Jayhawks. Old guy alert ... but ... I think sometimes @ the year that UGA went to their only Final Four ever. The year AFTER the legend and greatest player in school history went pro.

Eh whatever

"Waters being out actually played in LSU’s favor. He doesn’t look to drive to the basket and score like Smart did. Waters is a volume scoring who relies on 3-point shooting too much. He’s also turnover-prone."
