Arm strength is a little suspect, that first deep ball looked like a punt, but his ability to read and react is upper tier
Granted, we have been used to some strong arms for the past couple of years and his arm is probably not that strong. However, he puts more air under it, allowing the receiver to run under or adjust. Fine line between too much here and not enough.

I dunno man. Half those incomplete were pretty high. And the receivers were jumping and still going off their fingertips. I agree, some of those passes should have been caught when they hit you in the hands, but a couple were thrown behind the wr. Much harder to catch
He made good adjustments as the game went along and he settled down.

If he plays consistently against all levels of competition, he’s going to be a big story for Tennessee. One of those Gameday segments they produce five or six times a season—reminding us of his history every time a game is close and he has the ball. That’s a good thing for Tennessee.

Sure it’s the first game. And yes, we need to see more of JA against SEC teams before we declare him the next Hendon Hooker, but consider this, he has only had 3 months to learn our offensive playbook and to get his timing down with our WRs. For this reason, I give him an A+ for yesterday’s game. JA’s performance yesterday gives me a lot of hope for this season.

Some thoughts:
1. Perhaps JA made high throws early because he has a history of too many INTs. He just did not want to see an INT early in the game.
2. Of 2 long balls that I recall him throwing, one was laid in perfectly to Staley, resulting in a TD; JA slightly underthrew the other, to Matthews, allowing the DB to catch up and knock it away. That was on JA, not the receiver.
3. The best & most exciting player on offense is Star Thomas. And it's not even close.

While it was a great start, I am holding judgement until Sec competition and how well he is able to command the offense on the road.

I would be more optimistic if he had another year of eligibility.
