The reason that pass works is the defender let the person get past them, when they are in the press this cannot happenI believe they call it an over the top pass. You may have seen it executed before. It's the one where they throw the ball over the head of the defender who is in front of the person they are/were guarding.
In this case, the overhead pass is thrown over the two defenders who are in front of the person they’re both guarding, which of course leaves one of their teammates wide open due to the numerical mismatch.I believe they call it an over the top pass. You may have seen it executed before. It's the one where they throw the ball over the head of the defender who is in front of the person they are/were guarding.
Absolutely correct. The dribble does not beat the press. The pass does. Elite teams do not fear the press. They feast on it.I believe they call it an over the top pass. Seriously? Kim's press strategy is bringing 2 sometimes 3 defenders to trap the ball. Simple math; if you have 2 (or 3) swarming one player in the backcourt that leaves at one player wide open. If the other team understands how to move, they can keep the imbalance going all the way to an open shot or layup at the rim.The reason that pass works is the defender let the person get past them, when they are in the press this cannot happen
Yall are literally fantasizing expecting a smaller team to outrebound bigger teams.. Pat would never! But we’ll revisit these “we got scrappy undersized players” next season against elite competition! To be fair, we had height last year & not many of them ever seemed interested in boxing out & getting a rebound soo maybe the shorter ones will be scrappy go getters.

Idk if some of you just choose to be delusional because you happy we have players now or just haven’t watched how much the SEC and women basketball in general as evolved as a whole..
I am going to try and be gentle here. It was stated that as long as the LV players stayed in front of their assigned player in the press all would be well. I said the good teams know something called an over the top pass to easily beat this scheme. You cannot have it both ways. Either your defender is in front of their assigned player and susceptible to a pass over their head or they are behind that player and your theory falls apart. Both ways are a different thing entirely. The reason that pass works is the defender let the person get past them, when they are in the press this cannot happen
Apparently not so often based upon the results thus far. Most were finalized with the opposition running a fast break with numbers. Do you imagine that style of press is going to be super successful defensively this coming season with the type athletes that make up the current roster against top level teams? Or are you cool with it as long as it works against the non elite teams? And often those passes went out of bounds or were intercepted.
I heard a stat today that our avg height last yr was 6’0. This year it’s gonna be about 5’11… not a huge difference. But if we are gonna be throwin up 3s that = long rebounds, speedy guards get to the balls faster than a 6’4/6’5 player who couldn’t be less interested in fighting for a ball or boxing out if they tried. Yall just wanna b*tch for the sake of it. How about we wait & see what this coming season has to offer before we count these kids out simply because of their height. How may times last year did we have the height advantage & still lose the rebounding battle? I’ll take shorter players with heart & determination over tall players that couldn’t care less. We will see.Yall are literally fantasizing expecting a smaller team to outrebound bigger teams.. Pat would never! I rewatched the first halves of ohio state from 2024 and NC State from 2025. Neither of those teams really beat a trap. NC state beat us several times after rebounds. We looked much better on defense two years ago. I hope we can improve on it this year but that is my biggest question mark with this team as well.I believe they call it an over the top pass. You may have seen it executed before. It's the one where they throw the ball over the head of the defender who is in front of the person they are/were guarding.
I am glad you picked those two games. For all the fans of the team. If you include both NCSU games from 2025 along with that OSU game from 2024 the LV record was 1-2. It showcases the limits of this style of play IMO. Some good, some bad. Ending in something less than the standard set for this program.I rewatched the first halves of ohio state from 2024 and NC State from 2025. Neither of those teams really beat a trap. We didn’t look as good last year as we did in year one. I’m hoping it was a roster construction issue but you are right that it’s a concern.I am glad you picked those two games. OK, thanks for trying to be gentle. My point was if the defender was always between the player they are guarding and the basket the pass cannot go over the defender. Yes I understand your point and of course the press can be beat if players are out of place and not communicating.I am going to try and be gentle here. I will have my opinion all I want!! Just like you have yours! You tell me the last time a team with no size won SEC championships or tourney, and I’ll wait!I heard a stat today that our avg height last yr was 6’0. I’m hoping for the best and I hope they prove me wrong!! I’ll gladly take it because I want this program BACK to the big stage! I don’t want Sweet 16’s, I want final fours if I’m being honest!! I miss it and I want it!! The standard has to be there!I think we would all have loved to have O' Edwards at 6'3".
Two of the best rebounders in recent history were Angel at 6'3" and Morrow at 6'1".
Janneh averaged 11 points and 9.7 rebounds. I think Zhen Craft will make jump from freshman to sophomore. She averaged 4.2 rebounds in 15 minutes. Get her up to 20+ minutes and hopefully get those rebounds up to 7+. Barker was at 7 rebounds last year. Zee only averaged 6 rebounds each of the last 2 years. I think Moore will score and rebound better than Alyssa did last year. Maybe we get some rebounding from Makalusky and Peterson.
So. Size matters. Such a toxic misogynist perspective…I will have my opinion all I want!! Just like you have yours! You tell me the last time a team with no size won SEC championships or tourney, and I’ll wait!
Like I stated earlier, I’ll revisit next season when yall crying and complaining!! I hope they prove me wrong but until then, ima stand on what I said about having size!
Good day
