Championship teams blow out a team like Va-Tech. Especially after laying an egg the week before.

We'll know tonight whether team 120 is just another good team or a potentially great championship team.

Even the best teams lays eggs like we did against App State last week. Bad games happen. However, after such a humiliating subpar performance which the whole nation witnessed, true championship teams rebound and respond with DOMINATING performances.

This team has been humiliated for an entire week. They've been dissed by just about everyone. They fell a record number of spots in the polls despite the win. If this doesn't motivate them come out like gangbusters tonight and finish the game before the first half is over, then we might have to reevaluate our expectations for this team.

Not all of us predicted 15-0.

Here is to beating the crap out of VT though.

Go Vols

This game will not say whether they are or not. This game is against a rather weak team and won't really say anything going forward. The Florida game will tell exponentially more than this game will.

even b4 app state, did people really think this?

Yes. Why wouldn't they? If you don't see the talent on the team, you're delusional. I said 10-2 And maybe 11-1 if we get really lucky. 11-1. You're one game away from the playoff. Obviously after App state there's cause for concern. But anyone predicting anything less than 10-2, you're basically predicting us to underperform. And you think we will, fair enough. Especially after app state. But anything less than 10-2 is underachieving with the talent, veteran talent especially, that we have.

VT is really not that bad. Especially with Fuente, he wants this upset to show he's for real. He has something prove

We are a 10.5 favorite. This VT team isn't of the same caliber as we have seen from them over the last decade. I would say that App State is a tougher opponent and believe I said that on here before the game last week.

When you are talking about a game that shows championship team traits, this isn't the opponent to see that against..... That comes in the UF game IMO.

It will be interesting to see how Fuentes' team performs since he took Memphis to a new level and this being his first VT team. I hope it's not as close as I think it could be. The VOLS need to be dominate. I'm concerned about the passing game (INTs for the taking) and 1-2-3 punt. As they say "Turn the Dogs Loose". I don't want to see all this conservative crap. If you have weapons, use them!

Two years ago, NO. But now as a preseason top 10 team with back-to-back top 5 classes, YES.

I'm not on D4H's 15-0 level, but to sit there and say this team isn't talented enough to win a NC is not the truth IMHO

I seriously doubt UT "blows out VT". VT will hang around most of the game unleash UT used the same playbook they used against NW.

I don't disagree but it's the biggest football game of all time, the entire nation will be watching. VT will bring their best.

This game will set the tone for the entire season.

We either look championship calibre tonight, or we're going eek and squeak to 9-wins with a big dash of disappointment somewhere.

The only thing about this being the "biggest" is the attendance record, which is cool. As far as the entire nation watching, highly doubtful. I doubt that it cracks the top 10 as far as national broadcast.

I agree with you and the OP both to some degree. Florida is our litmus test. However if we come out and wreck VT in all phases of the game, I may believe us to be a team that could live up to the hype. The lights are bright and the stage is plenty big tonight. Champions shine under the lights.

Today we take a step. It's an important step, but still just one step. After today, there will still be 11, 12, or 13 more steps to go. It's a long season, football is, but far too short. Let's enjoy today for its own glory. And then the next step will come.

Go Vols!

Just win baby! If it's by one and ugly so be it. If 120 has a personality that allows them to win every game and get to the SECG by winning each game by one, I can live with that. The Vols historically do not do well against the spread in Vegas so a 10 point win is no big deal for me if we come out with dubya, I'm good this week. I believe we should be MUCH better than that however I'm not treating a W like an L and how some here at VN promote from my view.

Week 2 doesn't have any other exciting match ups. This will definitely be the most watched game.
