The only way Florida loses 2 SEC games, is LSU beats them twice. Once in Baton Rogue, and once in Atlanta.

1. Florida will not lose 2 conference games. LSU will be their only loss this season.
2. Anybody who believes that we will win out seriously needs to lay off the orange kool-aid.

i'm tired of trying to sneak in the back door to win the EAST...i'm ready for a Tennssee to kick ass and get in themselves and not depend on someone else

I think everyone is ready for that, but it just seems so far away from our current state of affairs.

I'm with the realist who looks at the remaining schedules of all the teams and realizes that the SEC Championship game is still a realistic goal for the Vols.

Remember how scared Cal looked after the Vols roared back in the 4th quarter.... only for the Vols to implode. Same for the Florida game, the Vols had all the mo' going their way until the fumble. Yes, the Vols have alot of work to do on defense (the talent is there), but the 2 toughest opponents the Vols will face all season have already been played.... on the road.

The players are pointing to a 10-2 regular season. The talent is there. Just like 1995, when the Vols lost similarly to the Gators in Gainesville... giving up 62 points. They went on to win their remaining games and a huge bowl win over Ohio State. The same defense that gave up 62 points to Florida also shut down Heisman winner Eddie George. The Vols finished that season ranked no. 2 in the final poll.

These players have shown way to much quit to expect 10-2. If they have even mentioned it we are in for more of the same. What's going to happen when we are in another tight ballgame. A break goes the other teams way are we going to quit? Thats the question i have. Records don't mean crap if you have a bunch of quitters on your team. Reality check 10-2 isn't going to happen.

allvol, I have always enjoyed reading your posts, as they are always well thought out, but you can't seriously believe that this team is in the same league with the 95 Vols can you?

This team is not as good as the 1995 team. I was just pointing out that I heard and read all the same things right after that meltdown in Gainesville in '95 as I'm reading now (probably the same folks) and the Vols recovered and won the rest. That team quit in that game too in '95... however they ended up not quitting on the season. This year's team has the talent and can easily do the same thing.

And I'm not saying I'm satisfied with the current state of things. I am always positive and I really think the Vols can win their remaining games. However, I was very upset after this latest game. One thing that would never happen under a Johnny Majors coach team is quitting. Didn't matter the score, those boys played their hearts out to the final whistle.

I'm not one to be so harsh and set a bar so high, but if the Vols don't win at least 9 regular season games plus the bowl this season, then I'm ready for a coaching change. It won't be based on this season, but a cumulative. There are too many factors that have formed my opinion.

We won't win the east. We are just not good enough period. I want to be optimistic to, but I have to look at the real picture.

AllVol, I would be ecstatic if we finished 10-2, and I will pull for the players to do it. But I think you're running on emotions... based on what I've seen you post over the years, you are clearly level headed and a superb stat man and analyst. What makes you think, honestly, that we have any chance of winning out from here (not a flame, just hoping you've seen something I haven't)?

These what-if topics have been repeated for last nine years. Wouldn't it be nice just to win and let everyone else worry about the what-ifs. Getting old real quick.

6 more home games which are all very winnable and 3 road games which are also very winnable. Only road game which looks tough is Alabama and the Vols have owned Bama since 1995. Not being emotional.... but I think it is VERY unrealistic and emotional for folks to be saying there ain't no way the Vols can win out.... because the way the schedule lays out for the remaining season, it would be very easy for the Vols to finish 10-2.

Get real man...you're making a huge assumption in that we won't lose another SEC game...c'mon

what's wrong with making that assumption? Just because it's not your belief doesn't mean it's not a valid thought. No one is 100% positive how this season will turn out. We've seen it done before

It has been done indeed...
...2004, then-senior linebacker Kevin Burnett said moments after a 34-10 home loss to Auburn that the Vols would regroup, win the SEC East and get a rematch in the conference championship game.
Burnett was right. The Vols won their final six SEC games before falling 38-28 to Auburn in the title game.

we should be in a bettter position to know in about 17 days.

and of course it is realistic to think it can happen. i would think everyone here would agree that much much stranger things have happened.

Well I was always told if you make an assumption it makes an ass out of you .....and umption..:)... Just playin:)

Here's my problem with it. Assuming we can win out or having faith that we can after what we've seen this year is just unrealistic...

It's like being one of those people who refuse to evacuate their house even though a huricane is coming. They say to themselves "It won't be that bad" or "I have fatih that it will work out" and then they almost lose their lives because they refused to look at the reality of it.

I hope to God we win out and I will be cheering for nothing less. But the reality is there are at least 3-4 other teams on this schedule...all in the SEC...that are playing better football than us right now.

And with our coaching staff's blatant refusal to adjust what they do...there is no reason for me to think we will change as drastically as we need to to win out.
