At this point I have the burned DVD. I ripped some clips off of the DVD using DVD Shrink but that just leaves me with vob files. I tried using dvd2avi but could not get it to sink the audio. Then I tried flaskmpeg but the files it was creating were HUGE.

I may try to download virtualdub.

Yeah, FlaskMPEG is going to create MPEG2 rips...

I get lots of good info off of www.dvdrhelp.com

But I'd try that gui4ffmpeg.
