We are in trouble at edge

When Herring left the narrative was Knowles wanted bigger edge guys and Ross would probably go also. Yet Knowles is supposedly pursuing Coleman, who is the same size as both Herring and Ross. Neither Herring or Ross were very productive after Josephs went down. They currently have 1 edge on the roster. If they miss on Coleman and Trick they will be in trouble. There are still plenty of edge guys out there. I would like the Mizzo guy.

I won’t panic until the portal closes and we’ve added zero depth. Until then, Redmond, Farooq, Perlotte…some of the guys who got a lot of playing time and I anticipate contributing next year are still here. Otherwise, I’m cool with a defensive overhaul after last years performance. We never know what’s going on behind closed doors, maybe Knowles wants different guys.

Oh no, the sky is falling.

The simple truth is, we are in the Free agency stage of college football. He is a talented defensive end to lose, but I am not worried until I see who he brings in.
At this point looks like no one..just a complete drop of the ball thus far..

We are in trouble across the board. The sad part is, although knowledgeable fans who make 0$ from the program can see the issues, the coaches who make 7 figures either can't see it (unlikely) or lack the ability (maybe?) or drive (my suspicion) to work in the new NIL environment.

I am disappointed, but hardly surprised, that we are so quiet in the portal. Although I don't want to believe it, part of me suspects that CJH is playing out his $9MM string and now plans, once he is fired here, to either retire (unlikely) or move back to a G5 school (more likely) where the pressure is much less. He has already made generational wealth, and I am starting to doubt that he is as driven as Saban or Smart, or the other coaches who seem to still keep the pedal down even after making 8 figures (in Saban's case, 9) overall from the program.

Heck, if I'm honest if I had banked $50 Million or so over 6 years I am not sure I would still be as motivated. So, no slam on Heupel, he just seems somewhat checked out.

Panicking in early January about a season that starts in 8 months is nice.

I see your point, but there is cause for concern with only 9 days left in the portal itself. We have a good recruiting class but I don’t think fielding a squad full of true freshmen is gonna cut it.

Yup the doomsayers are going to be out in droves right now. And none of em have a clue as to what’s going on in the program.

My understanding is that we can still sign players after the portal closes. When the portal closes, it simply means that no more players can enter it. If I am wrong, please correct me.

Correct, the player has to enter the portal by the 16th. stays in it afterwards . after 16th no one can enter the portal, unless the rules change by then .
