But do they have the love for the Tennessee program or are they just helping their career out with a quick stint at UT...

I liked what Monte said...

Our job is to help them understand why they love TN football. You can't see the orange and be in that stadium and not feel honored to be there. Pure and simple.

I don't belive this will be very permanent though. There are a few too many young, talented coaches on staff.

But I'd almost be for certain that the deal with coach O is that he's getting the DC position in a couple of years.

Who cares as long as they win? If they're here for 3-4 years and we have a conference championship and national championship to show for it, they can go wherever they want.

If they do well enough to get great job offers and go somewhere else, that means we are winning. That's what happens when you have a top program. It is in their interest to do their very best for the Vols if they want to advance their own careers.

Welcome to the real world of assistant coaches. Despite what you've seen at UT the past 15 years, most coaching staffs experience some amount of turnover every few years.

But the beauty of it is this... if they do well and get a promotion elsewhere, they will have most likely got our program back to where it should be. And then we reload.

CLK doesn't have to look far to see how this works. He has a close mentor in Pete Carroll, who has done wonders with the revolving door that is USC assistants.

I agree with some other posters, as a coach your always looking for better jobs. If they get an opportunity to leave for something better than that means we are probably where we want to be. Although for me there couldn't be a better job than UT!!!!!!!

I'm fine with position coaches leaving for better positions after a while.

If the head coach(in general, not just Kiffin) hires the best available coaches, or coaches he believes will excel, they will eventually move on to positions with more responsibility be it college or NFL. Can't expect a te/dl/lb/secondary/ect coach to remain in the same position forever if he's getting offers for better positions.

This is an important question that hasnt been raised,and it would surprise me if the kiffins were just here for the lime light and will quickly take their show to the nfl if it proves successful here. I hope they are in for the long run but it wouldn't surprise me if they were not.

The ONLY way Lane gets back to the NFL is if he has success here. So if he goes back to the NFL...he would have done good things and got us back to where we need to be.

Others may come and go but Lane and Monte will be here for a long time "if successful". Monte has said he wants to win championships. That's plural. He's in it to win it.

Monte has said 2 years. A lot of that was to get Orgeron though.

Monte will be here no longer than 5 years.

Surely they thought that we could never duplicate what Zora Clevinger had done with an outsider.

In 1964 we moved the old guard out and was successful with a coordinator off the Arkansas staff that lead to a very successful era. In 1992 we moved the man who was the lifeblood of UT football at that point to Pittsburgh and ended up with a National Championship in the 5th year.

Face it. The King is dead, long live the King.

Kiffin's building the best staff in the SEC. Florida's already lost mullen and may lose gonzales.
