Water Softener & Filtration Systems

Salt or no salt softener? If I go with salt, would it help to add filtration downstream?

Just not certain what direction to go in. I've seen mixed reviews about he no salt/saltless softeners.

Anyone have any successes with a particular set-up or brand?

Here in MT, we have hard water... and I currently use a salt based water softener (whole house). And it has been running great, just keep feeding salt and run a resin cleaning cycle periodically. For me this is the way to go.

I use a system desinged like this below... bought mine from Home Depot...

One more comment...I don't use a separate filtration system.
