Watching the CPF show and it is clear...

How much validity does that have considering CPF has only been head coach at UT, Meyer has only coached 1 SEC team so far and Richt has been at UGA?

Seriously, put CPF at UGA now or Richt at UT or Meyer at UGA and they'd all have wins over the 3 others.

This is in no way in defense of CPF, just saying that doesn't mean a lot.

we're not talking about Phil, we're talkng about SOS at USC
way to just assume we're slamming Phil :) (9 times out of ten you'd be right)

if SOS is in fact the only USC coach to beat the big 3 of the SEC East, I would say that makes them measurably better under him as opposed to Holtz, etc. Can I get an amen?

No. Let them win something significant before we talk up USCe. Fighting tooth and nail for 3rd place in the SEC east is nothing special.

If we're (myself included) going to criticize CPF for not winning at UT, Spurrier should be held to the same standards. Especially if he's the great coach we've (myself included) make him out to be.

And, exactly how many trips to Atlanta did that earn the Gamecocks? Bobby Johnson also has wins over UT and Georgia. Does that mean he's improved Vandy?

yes it does...bro', are you reaching or what? just admit that SOS has made USC a more competitive team?

eh.....talking TN and USC football requires some hedging if your comparing what is thought to be successful at UT vs USC. they're different standards. taken in the correct context, what SOS has done thus far is very successful FOR SC. if he did the same at UTK, not so much.

you cannot compare UT & USC in that context. Have you ever been to Columbia? Their fanbase, facilities, tradition, etc pale in comparison to Tennessee.

to us, that's correct. to SC fans........it does. i don't think it was stated in comparison to anything other than what had been previously done at SC, in that context, it's significant.

Well in that light yes it makes it significant

they actually have a great fanbase, esp considering the level of success they've, uh, never had.

Holtz got South Carolina to 9 wins...Spurrier hasn't done that.

Holtz got South Carolina to a top 15 ranking in the final AP poll...Spurrier hasn't done that.

If you measure a coach by one or two wins, good for you. I measure a coach by what he does over the course of a season.

Reaching? Hardly.

I'm not going to call Spurrier's teams any more competitive than Holtz' teams. I watched them all play, and there's not much difference between them...in fact, I'd take Holtz' 2001 SC team over any SC team that Spurrier's fielded.

For the record, I think Spurrier's a great coach. However, I think people give his SC teams more credit than they deserve based on the success he had at Florida.

The Gamecocks haven't finished with a higher conference standing or national ranking under Spurrier than they did under Holtz. I don't think it's a "reach" for me to think they haven't really improved over the past 3 years.

I may be wrong, but isnt SOS the only USC coach to beat UF, UGA, & UT?

Besides Spurrier, Sparky Woods came the closest, beating both Georgia and Tennessee....

1992 5-6
SC 6, UGA 28
SC 24, TN 23
SC 9, FL 14

1993 5-6
SC 23, UGA 21
SC 3, TN 55
SC 26, FL 37

Yes I've been to Columbia and yes everything they have pale in comparison to UT's.

But I think it is a stretch to say Spurrier has made USCe into a powerhouse. Spurrier's 3 year run is nothing special there or anywhere else, regardless of fanbase, facilities etc.

I believe Spurrier is a great coach, but he's getting too much credit because in the end, you are what your record says you are and that is mediocre (at USCe). Next year he might win a SEC title or a National Championship with them and then I'll be wrong, but so far, he hasn't done much there. That's just my opinion

if you were any kind of Tennessee fan you'd be mad about getting your brains beaten out by Alabama and Florida no matter what. I wonder if you're not one of these johnny come lately fans. I grew up getting drilled by Bama. I was in college on the Hill when SOS was handing our heads to us in Gainesville. I dont care if we win the national championship, Im still going to have a very hard time getting blown out by those two teams. Im suprised you're not mad.

Look man, we pretty close to the same age - I despise Bama more than UF and probably always will.

I hate to lose any SEC game. Losing big is a tough pill to swallow as well, but I'll moan for a week then move on. I was mad - I'm not that mad anymore. Much like I'm not carrying anger over any other big loses the last 30 years.

This team, this year, is like our basketball team last year. They are having trouble winning on the road. Having seen Cal, UF, and UAT play many games each I am completely confident that if we played any of them again the results could be the exact opposite.

A big win can usually ease the pain of a loss for me. However, with Alabama, it takes me much longer... sometimes until the Vols beat them again.

Like those that are hoping for an Alabama vs Tennessee SECCG matchup.... If both teams were to make it and the Vols win, it would shorten my suffering by many monthes.

Not to mention, a Tennessee v. Alabama SEC Championship game would provide the rivalry with the big-time national stage that it's lacked since the mid 90s.

I would love to win out and meet Alabama in Atlanta.

For me, the pain of a loss is relative to the consecutive years since a victory. If it's an even series, I move past it pretty fast. If UF wins next year, it will take a while to recover regardless if it's one point or 40.

No offense, but you just trip me out. Did you see what one of the most pedestrian offenses in the nation did to us, at home, last saturday? And you sit here and say that you're confident that if we played Cal, UF, & Bama again we'd win? You are so far out in left field I cant even see you. I cant imagine how you can honestly say that. Every team we play (w/ the exception if UGA) has run over us, around us, and through us, even the games we won. did you see what the Miss State running back did? If we played them again, those three teams, I'd be scared the beatings would be worse.
