Watched spring practice today while at a BB game. No pads just helmets and shorts. This is what I saw

Colquitt is the only consistent field goal kicker we have, Lincoln's kicks all looked ugly

The top 3 receivers right now are Briscoe, Taylor and Rogers

Holbert made some nice catches from the TE spot (still lined up like a FB alot though)

Taylor muffed 2 punts

Ainge looked sharp

Almost always 3 WR with a TE in motion

Foster got more carries with the 1st team than Coker or Hardesty

Did not get to see the no huddle, I left too early

I pray that Lucas Taylor will not be our Punt Returner.

I think that Colquitt will be our Field Goal Kicker against Cal.

Foster better redeem himself from that Penn St. game.

Good stuff. Pretty consistent with everything you read online about the WR's and Kickers. Lincoln muffing kicks, Lucas dropping punts. Little surprised Coker is in the doghouse.

Rogers didn't impress me much at anytime last year, he also had a couple dropped passes in the AF game.

As of now, Id bet big bucks on Hefney taking them...[/quote]

Rogers is getting serious consideration for that too.

Hefney is due to return a few this upcoming season. He has that Devin Hester blood in him. Taylor........no!

I'd say once they get the ball in their hands, Taylor and Hefney are both good punt returners. Everything leading up to that, neither do all that well.

I dont recall Hefney doing anything bad PRing this year besides maybe catch a few too close to his own goaline...

I'm betting the punt return duties will belong to a playmaker this year...Gerald Jones or Kenny Oneal.

I think he had one other miscue. His freshman year, he had quite a few. He ended up benched in favor of Derrick Tinsley. Tinsley actually turned out to be really good.

from the little i've seen of him the last few seasons, he's struggled in both areas

I don't think he even had a pass thrown his way until 2006. He had a big catch in the Air Force game that would have been a TD, but Ainge underthrew him. It's pretty hard for a fourth receiver to distinguish himself when he's playing behind one of the best WR trios UT has ever had. The one time I did attend a practice, he seemed to be our best big play threat. He probably had four 50+ yard plays that one practice.

The only thing some people want to see/hear on here is that Taylor sucked and Troop lifted Slick Shelley on his shoulders and carried him off the field, proclaiming him the next great player at UT.

Great notes, thanks.

I've noticed that, too. Why is it that everyone is enamored with Slick Shelley and so many want Lucas Taylor to ride the pine? These are probably the same people that thought Demetrice Morley was one of our elite players.

Because Rivals is their herion...they base all their Vol knowledge on "star rankings". It's better, in their minds, to guard Gibbs Hall than actually put on a uniform.

Those same think 3 new players that havn't even moved on campus will be starting...see the thread in the recruiting thread questioning if Ben Martin can come in and start right away. It's just plain comical.

Most conversation on this site, I must say, is thoughtful, just a few clowns.

I think the Slick Shelley fixation is because we haven't seen up screw up yet and he has a cool name. Justified or not, Taylor is a "known" WR and people just don't have much confidence. I think the reason the incoming receivers cause excitement is they have shown so much promise and are being talked about by the Coaches. It has nothing to do with Clowns.

What coach isn't going to talk up an incomming player? You want the newcommers to have confidence that they are going to come in and start or contribute. We will be lucky if 3 of the newcommers contribute at WR. O'Neal has to b/c he will be a junior, and 2 fresh may come in and get some PT.
