I think some of the media mentioned him as a good hire, but most people knew that Butch was going to stay with people he was familiar with and hired DeBoard.
FWIW - I think hiring Heupel as OC would have been a bad choice for Butch - they had no history and Butch never really let go of the offense...so oil and water.

Can't say I remember him being considered. Like IndianaVol said though Heup and Butch would not have worked well together. I'm just grateful Stoops made the decision he did. Heups system has changed the game. We are a threat to have the number one offense in CFB each and every year.
