Was anyone else told to stay seated during the game by the usher?

I sat in the Terrace seating and the guys next to us were up most of the game.

I was nervous because the two men behind me were older and rarely stood up (I've read a lot of these stories on here) but when I moved over to the stair case a couple times to stay out of their line of sight they politely told me that I could stand whenever.

There was this considerably older woman in our row that got up six or seven times to presumably use the bathroom (not even including half time or between quarters)...

"Its hell getting old."

Section HH row 2, we was told to stay seated by 75 year olds behind us(who left in the 3rd quarter), in which the usher agreed with them and told us to sit down.

Me and my wife told them that we paid 150 for our seats and we would stand up when we felt necessary.
My wife 26 years old was told by a 75 year old man to sit down and shut up at this point I had to take up for my wife and said "Sir, would you like for me to talk to your wife like that?" his wife was beside him telling us to sit down as well and all he could do was stare at me..

I tried not to be disrespectful but isn't it my right to stand up and cheer for the Vols?

*on a side note some cool Oklahoma fans a row up looked at me and said we will switch seat with you guys and we will stand up the whole time" lol I thought this was funny and a nice gesture.

He shook my hand after the game and told us never to lose our passion that this was college football and he was impressed by our stadium.

It all depends on the situation. No excuse for it Saturday, but I've been to games against FCS teams and you have two idiots who insist on standing the whole time when not another soul in the section is on their feet. They need to sit, but Saturday it was get up or keep quiet!!!!!!

Perhaps I should replace standing with making noise, though if others are standing in front of and around you, your noise will generally not travel very well if you yourself are not standing.

I will often stand but it is the rare occasion that I will scream and make noise. I value my throat and health to much to risk it yelling at a ball game. After about the age of 40 it can take as much as two weeks for a throat damaged by yelling to heal, and I'm just not up for that.

In section CC, the only people who sat down in the first half were the handful of Oklahoma fans. Second half it was nap time when we had the ball but that's another thread

Would be nice to set up those who can't stand in the first few rows and then the rest of us can stand and yell to do our part. Speaking of which my ears finally quit ringing and I got my voice back today.

I was in row 3 in section U....best seats I've ever had at Neyland. I was so disappointed by the lack of noise and cheering in that section. I was told to sit down constantly....made sense b/c I was one of the very few standing and cheering in that section for some reason...unbelievable!

QQ stood for almost the entire time, I'm always in the first seat on the rail, basically on the 1 yd. line, so I don't look behind me a lot to know what's going on.

Even our section (D) was mostly on its feet for the entire game while on D. I didn't hear one complaint (for a change).

Section V here. I stood the entire game and screamed so loud I lost my voice all day yesterday and barely got it back. My apologies to the guy in front of me. I didnt mean to hit you in the head 15 times. What an amazing atmosphere!

I was in row 63 I think there are only 64 not an issue. Stand and yell on defense sit and cheer on offense. They guy in front of me would stand on a big play and he was concerned about my view, I told him to do his thing and let me worry about my view, I so t mind sitting on offense and can yell just as much sitting, when in front of me stands so will I. I had so much fun at the game, sat with my one of my sons and one of my brothers. The second best thing of being at the game and winning is being there and losing, I don't buy I to being a jinx or we might have won if only I hadn't gone to the game.
GO VOLS! RUN the TABLE!

Neyland stadium should be Standing Room Only for big games. If people want to sit, then they should just stay at home.

Those people are my parents.

Yes, it is your right to cheer for your Vols, as loudly and rapturously as you like. But...

No, it is not your "right" to stand or engage in other activities that impinges on the ability of others to enjoy the game.

A little backstory. My father, 80 this month, has just recently undergone heart surgery, has gout in both legs, yet managed the almost 30-minute walk from the hotel, up the numerous ramps, to sit in HH. My mother, 76, has survived brain aneurysm surgery, multiple leg fractures, and being married to my father. The trek up to Section HH is arduous for them both, but their love of the Vols compels them to repeat this exercise for every home game.

My parents bought their seats in HH in 1976. They have had numerous opportunities and offers for different seats but have stayed loyal to those seats for reasons that are too numerous to elucidate here. Suffice it to say, there are both practical and immensely sentimental concerns involved.

Quick math will show that they have been in those seats for almost 40 years, and they have been going to games in Neyland for almost 60.

The entire section around them has been virtually the same people for many of those years. So, just to be clear, your behavior and activities didn't just affect my parents, but dozens of season ticket holders in the section.

My parents (and other elderly in the section) cannot stand the whole game, or on every other play, or whenever you deem appropriate. From multiple accounts, you and your wife were, at best, tone-deaf to the situation and climate of what was appropriate, and, at worst, downright disrespectful. My parents left in the 3rd quarter because of your actions.

The attitude of "I paid my money - I can do what I want" is falsely entitled and dangerous. In this particular instance, you and your wife were in the wrong. There is a reason the usher sided with my parents (and the rest of the section). My mom hated that you banged your metal seat throughout the first half but understands that is part and parcel of the game atmosphere. What everyone in the section took exception to was your defiance and intentional blocking of the view of other spectators in the section - spectators who would love the ability to stand and jump but can't because of age and genetics.

And just a technical note, you were in the second row of the upper deck. There is no practical reason for you to stand. There was literally no one blocking you.

All of the above is truth. It may not have been what you wanted or expected but sometimes we must temper those feelings and take into account the well-being of others.

Fantastic post. Thank you.

Stood and screamed my guts out with section O on every OU offensive play. Sat queitly for all our O plays to let Dobbs & Co do their thing.

But, our entire section was basically the same. Had an elder been impaired by my standing, then I would have been respectful and screamed my guts out sitting down as the rules require in Neyland Stadium.

Sorry your parents had to experience that.

I was on the other side of the world and was up to 4am watching the game and I stood pacing in front of the TV almost the entire evening with my fellow Vol fans. My wife had to come downstairs to tell us to be a little more quiet so I'm going to show her the OP's post about old people! :)

My understanding is that there are a group of old people that try to dictate everything. Your seat and you can stand and cheet. Time for those people to watch from their retirement home.

Honestly, what did people expect going to a night game in Neyland, nationally televised, one of the most hyped games in years, between 2 top 25 teams? If they have had the seats for 50 years, they would know its not going to be a mild, sit down kind of game.

70 yr olds have no business going to a vols game in the first place. Watch from home IMO. Dangerous.
