War in Ukraine

So you admit that the other 3 were made up...

Thanks for proving my point.

And we've discussed Pearl Harbor a dozen times in here. The US created conditions that pushed Japan into a corner.

The Lusitania was some years before we got in.

I'm not saying it wasn't helpful in the justification when we did declare war, but the sole cause is certainly up for debate.

You know what? How about we don't do a damn thing and let the EU grow a set of nuts for a change? If they don't have the stones to fight Russia, then why should we?
We've made alot of terrible political and military mistakes since WWII. But doing everything we can to keep Russia in check is not one of them. We shouldn't and won't engage them Ukraine. But we can make them pay a high price for their aggression. Just because the EU rolls over doesn't mean we should. The previous administration was wrong to cower to Russia and try to weaken NATO.

NATO should be disbanded.

Not sure if anyone follows the War in Donbas any more but Russia is again building up military presence on the border. They have done this before and it turned out to be nothing but a lot people are calling this new buildup concerning because its outside of the regular Russian training schedule and in the past movements were done during the day and had video evidence and now they are being conducted at night. Not sure if this one will turn out to be real either but apparently the US is concerned. The CIA Director had a talk with Putin recently and Blinken just recently said we are seeing unusal military activity in Russia near the Ukrainian border and said the concern is there that Putin may try and rehash 2014 all over again. Combine this with the Russian directed migrant crisis on the Polish/Belarusian border and the concern that the Baltic's may also be subjected to weaponized migrant hordes this time it feels different. Also too the war in the east has sprung back to life in the past few weeks with heavy artillery being used and Ukrainian forces using their new drones to bomb Russian positions.
You know Putin sees weakness in the US. He also sees the 800lb gorilla staring him down from the corner....china. His obvious goal is to restore the soviet union and try to gain some ground. China won't stop and we're bought and paid for. This is his chance.

I agree on the missiles but we can't turn NATO in a bargaining chip. It is by far the strongest military alliance on earth and we can never let Putin have any input on who can or cannot join. NATO should already have an envoy in Finland and Sweden encouraging them to request membership the minute Russia invades Ukraine.

Agree on unfettered access to NATO, and I only think the prevention of missiles in countries adjacent to Russia should be on the table.

At the end of the day, should Putin invade Ukraine, it will have a huge impact on the Finlands and Swedens of the world. I would see those countries and many others immediately joining NATO. Putin has to recognize this in his calculus.

U.S. Considers Backing an Insurgency if Russia Invades Ukraine

Administration officials interviewed this week said that plans to help Ukrainian insurgents could include providing training in nearby countries that are part of NATO’s eastern flank: Poland, Romania and Slovakia, which could enable insurgents to slip in and out of Ukraine. Beyond logistical support and weapons, the United States and NATO allies could also provide medical equipment, services and even sanctuary during Russian offensives. The United States would almost certainly supply weapons, the officials said.

Can't help but think of that BSG quote, "All of this has happened before and will happen again."

Just what this nation needs...another war or proxy war.
If we supply weapons, all we are doing is getting more people killed. Russia will roll right over them. To fight back it will need to be a hit and run deal. They try to fight the Russians nose to nose the number of casualties will be huge. Take a look at Vietnam and Afghanistan. All we would be doing in suppling weapons would be bleeding Russian at the expense of Ukrainian lives. Let the Ukrainians fight a guerilla war while the rest of the world applies unbelievable economic pressure on Russia. I firmly believe this would reduce the casualty count and achieve a much quicker desired result.
