Can anybody explain all the love that Peterson is getting on a national level and at the same time explain why Prentiss Waggner isn't getting any at all?

Peterson has two interceptions. Waggner also has two.

Peterson has returned those interceptions for 46 yards. Waggner has returned his for 63 yards (that's good for second in the SEC)

Peterson has 0 TD off of interceptions. Waggner has two.

Edit: Waggner has 4 PBU, 23 tackles and 1 fumble recovery. Peterson has 2 PBU, 11 tackles and a blocked kick.

I realize that Peterson is dynamic in the return game and that Waggner is not at all involved. But people are talking about Peterson like he is a shut down corner when Waggner has better stats in all of those categories. I'm not sure about tackles or passes defended as I couldn't find a site that had those listed.

Those two plays occurred while playing UT-Martin and UAB? Just a guess, Peterson has shown out on a national stage.

He's not a returner and he's not nearly as athletic for his relative size

I get that he's not a returner. I said that in my OP. But I also said that people treat him like he's a shut down corner and the stats don't play that out.

He is like a shut down corner, nobody throw to his side. He has great recovery speed as well.

They dont throw his way because he is that good and they are scared of him. Thats why his stats dont look too great. Just watch him play Saturday and you will see the difference.

I think I need to disagree here. All the articles about him matching up with Jones are discussing his abilities as a CB, not as a returner.

sure but if you watch him actually play hes nothing great as corner. if WVU had a QB and NC wasnt playing third team scout team players, he gets lit up.
hes the only reason they won those games cuz he can return kicks.
i know what the articles say but in reality he is a kick returner playing CB.
if sims can actually get him the ball, i think jones can make him look average to bad.

i agree with the original question tho. peterson isnt that great of a CB

I can understand that arguement, but it's the first logical one I've heard. Thank you. I still think that Waggner should be getting a little love for leading the nation in Pic 6s. I know it's only two but only one other person in the country has that many.

Let's make it three Waggner!!

Peterson may very well be the best PLAYER in the country. Waggner wouldn't even be playing if Darren Myles Jr wasn't such an idiot.

If you could find it the stat to look at would be balls thrown to their side of the field.

Thank you. Some logic. Can somebody look up his stats against UNC. How many times did UNC throw his way, how many were completed for how many yards, how many YAC did the receiver get and was the contact from Peterson. Did he tackle on the first contact or did he miss it and need safety help? etc. I would but I'm not sure where to look.

Agreed. Anybody know where to find this. I'm sure some stat freek keeps this on the internet somewhere.

Does College Football Data Warehouse have this info?

I see what you mean. Wagner is a sophomore I believe and still has alot of learning to do, but can become a very good player. Peterson is just one of those physical freaks at corner that come around once a decade.

I think it is a legit thread... better than most I have seen lately. Shemale just likes being a dick.

I see and thank you. I'm not one to come on here and spew negativity nor am I one to rehash the same old stuff over and over again. I thought it was a legitimate question that didn't deserve "wow this is a real thread" as an answer.

Agreed. All the negativity and "one line" bashing comments need to go (not saying I haven't done my share :)).
I personally think a couple hit the nail on the head about stats. I do not think Peterson has proven to be the best yet but has all of the potential for a great one. I assume like others that QBs avoid him like the plague.

I don't think the thread hate is because of you comparing stats between the two players, but that you believe these stats somehow show Waggner is on the same page as Peterson. He is not. People are not scared to throw into the middle of our defense and that is where Waggner plays ball. People hardly ever throw at Peterson and he normally is the one gaurding their best player. Also, it isn't like people just found out about him this year. He played out of this world last year too. The only difference is they are letting him return kicks now. He is probably the most talented player in the country.
