Dwyane Wade and Ray Allen think Olympians should be paid | Ball Don't Lie - Yahoo! Sports
Selfish a holes IMO. Larry, Magic and Jordan would have never asked for compensation to rep the red, white, and blue back in Barcelona.
How much more money do these jerks need? Talk about being out of touch.. I use to repect these guys. Use to, anyway. They obviously need a good briefing on what the Olympics are about. Not that that would help or anything
Do you have any idea how much money from endorsements Olmypic athletes receive from just competing? The entire world is your stage at the Olmypic games.. what better international marketing stage is there than that? These athletes are being paid by the International Olympic Committee but they are majority are still receiving hefty sums.. particularly the NBA players who sell their brand overseas. i.e. Dwayne Wade
You think Wade needs the Olympics to get international exposure? I wouldn't want to do my job for no pay for 2 months, while I see everybody around me getting wealthier.
That is the problem with these cats they are taking the same approach that you are.. it isn't about the money. Not for the athletes anyhow, least it shouldn't be.. I would like to think that they think of sacrificing two months of their lives for a cause much bigger than they will ever be is worth it in terms other than fiscal. It is vindictive of a selfish me-first attitude.
Shouldn't be about personal gain or "what is in it for me"
Wade was quoted Wednesday saying he thinks "guys should be compensated" for playing over the summer and noted the schedule demands of being an Olympian.
"It's a lot of things you do for the Olympics -- a lot of jerseys you sell," Wade said after the Heat's practice on Wednesday in advance of Thursday's game against Chicago. "We play the whole summer. I do think guys should be compensated. Just like I think college players should be compensated as well. Unfortunately, it's not there. But I think it should be something, you know, there for it."
"The biggest thing is now you get no rest," Wade said. "So you go to the end of the season, [Team USA] training camp is two weeks later. You're giving up a lot to do it. It's something you want to do. But it's taxing on your body. You're not playing for the dollar. But it would be nice if you would get compensated."
Wade later tweeted that pride for his country "motivates me more than any $$$ amount."
Wade played for the U.S. at Athens in 2004 and Beijing in 2008, and has said the London Games would be his last.
Nationalism, Patriotism, pride, tradition.. etc.
Of course he is backing off of his comments.. everybody is roasting his ass. Damage control.
