For those of you to young to remember. Tennessee had gone through a decade of humiliation at the hands of Pawl Bear Bryant and the taterdiggers and their wishbone offense. It was a beautiful fall day with Johnny Majors at the helm of teh 1982 Vols. The tiders thought they were number 1 but clearly they were number 2. We flushed the tiders like the crimson turds they are. No one believed, but the Vols in orange and in the stands. Go back and watch this game on youtube. You cannot imagine the relief of the volnation. We tore down the goalpost back when you could and should. We marched through the town. We humiliated the tiders and sent them back to their benighted state where they belong the cesspool of the south. I think it eventually killed Bryant. He sucked and so do the tiders. It was one of the greatest days to be a volunteer. GBO.

Both my parents were seniors at UT that year. I grew up listening to stories about this game.

1. Tennessee 35, Alabama 28
Oct. 16, 1982
There’s an iconic picture of former Tennessee coach Johnny Majors leaning down to shake Bear Bryant’s hand as Majors was being carried off the field by his players. His unranked Vols, who lost to both Duke and Vanderbilt that season, had just upset the No. 2 Crimson Tide, snapping an 11-game losing streak in the series. It was Bryant’s final game in the rivalry. He retired after the season and died less than a month later. Bryant finished his coaching career 16-7-2 against Tennessee. Alabama quarterback Walter Lewis lofted a fourth-down pass into the end zone that was intercepted by Mike Terry with 17 seconds remaining. Legendary "Voice of the Vols" John Ward exclaimed, “The crowd goes bee-zerk,” and within minutes, the goal posts at Neyland Stadium came crashing down in a wild scene on Rocky Top.
