"If you're in Alabama, you want to control the state of Alabama," Thigpen said. "If you're in Georgia, you want to control the state of Georgia. Everywhere I've been, if you've controlled that state in recruiting and you do a really good job of getting 80 to 90 percent of the players, you'll see a lot of success.

"Coach Jones, that's been his message from day one: Make sure we control the state of Tennessee, and then we'll work some areas as well. This is our main focus, this is our home, and what's more important is we keep all these guys here in our state."

As more northerners migrate south, to Tennessee, you will see more and more top quality football players. Within 5 or 6 more years, we will have 2 or 3 times the amount of top quality players on the Tennessee high school level than we have now....

I do not agree that a loss to Vanderbilt will have a tremendous effect on our recruiting class. I believe that most of the commits we currently have will come this year because Butch is here. They are football players and they can see what Butch is doing and the family atmosphere he believes in. A loss would effect additional practice and playing time this year. However, it will have little bearing on the available of playing time next year. Most of the commits I have been able to see speak about their commitment to Tennessee have listed three key items of importance. 1) The opportunity for immediate playing time. 2) They liked Tennessee in general. 3) The liked the coaches and what they are doing with the program. They believe in Butch and what he is going to do at Tennessee in the future. JMHO.

The University of Tennessee has controlled the State of Tennessee in recruiting a lot longer than Vandy has, if, at all. Even with losers like Kiffin or Dooley at the helm.

I wish Vanderbilt was in another conference. If this game meant anything other than the usual guaranteed victory in normal years then I would get excited. I actually would prefer swapping Candy for North Carolina. And while we are at it. Swap Missouri for Virginia Tech.

Personally, I'd rather swap VT for Vandy before Vandy for UNC. Just my $0.02. Mizzou isn't that bad here really.

Why don't we just ask the NCAA if TENNESSEE can play the top 12 teams in the preseason and the heck with the conference still be playing 6 or 7 SEC games anyway, swap VT for Vandy.:ermm:
