Come on dude, "real Tennessee fans didn't go to or watch that game."

We actually count on it. As is Bama custom, expect a nice meet and greet in Neyland this year with lots of Crimson in the stands. We realize Y'all can't stay long and we'll turn off the lights when we leave.

I don't get the Lock hype. He is 54.5% in his whole career. He's thrown 24 INTs against SEC play with only 37 or so TDs. He puts up crazy numbers on bad teams like Missouri State.

OP thanks. I honestly did not realize just how hard our schedule is next year. Our D is having to learn a new system and players are going to have to play spots they would not normally play... After looking at this I think we are going to take our lumps this year. It's going to be a challenge but I am very optimistic of the future.

I remember when things were precisely the same in Bryant Denny, got pretty empty in 1999.

Tua is a great college QB and I think it was Saban's first blatant coaching blunder having Hurts start in the title game. Almost too late late of a decision in the change.

After seeing Tua light us up it was clear that he possesses not only the management and scrambling abilities of Hurts but he is a natural passer.

That's why articles and ratings like this are worthless. Some offenses produce more favorable QB stats. Some teams and QBs play in conferences where offense is queen - forget defense, so they'll have outstanding offensive numbers (in both senses of the word - all offense is an affront to the real game of football).

Tagovailoa is going to be the best QB of the Saban era and this will be apparent very soon. But for my money, the QBs that have my full attention and that go to the top of the list are the ones that bring an outstanding football team with them.

The fact that Tua is #2 makes this list ridiculous. Not saying the kid can’t play but the guy has played one half of college football

That’s just not true. He played in 8 games last year as a true freshman, threw 11 touchdowns vs only 2 interceptions in 77 pass attempts. You and everybody else saw how good he was in that national title game vs an excellent Georgia defense, and that got him on the map to those who hadn’t yet seen him play much, if any. But he’d been pretty much doing that all year long whenever he got opportunities to play.

I agree that much of the list is crap, but imho, more so because they already have incoming freshmen who’ve never played a down of college football on the list. How does that work?

Does this bode well for another 4-8 season, perhaps?

My gut feeling is this is a 5-8 win team. Poor luck and injuries will decide where we end up on that spectrum. I see 3 games where well be 10+ underdogs (GA, AL, AU). I also can't see us running the table against the teams we are more evenly matched with (SCjr, FL, WV, Mizzou, KY). I am counting Vandy as the only sure SEC win.

While I completely agree with this statement it is amazing to me how low that bar actually is. You would think with so many national championships you would have numerous Heisman caliber qbs. As much as I hate Bama I have to admit I respect the fact that Saban has a team that wins and never really has to rely on a superstar. Unlike Meyer for example who can not win without a Heisman quality qb.

When you insist on saying "You would think you would have numerous Heisman Caliber QBs." You need to know your own history to see the southern bias that has dominated that trophy and SEC QBs.

Quick history lesson. Mark Ingram was Bama's first Heisman winner. First! We've been known to put 3 QBs in the NFL Hall of Fame. Bart Starr (2 time Super Bowl winner) Joe Willie Namath (Super Bowl winner) Kenny "The Snake" Stabler (Super Bowl winner)

So Alabama stands at 2 Heisman winners and how many does Tennessee have? Let's ask Peyton Manning? Speaking of the best QB in your long history, what QBs from Tennessee are in the NFL HOF? I'm giving you Peyton, now name some of Tennessee's historically great college and NFL QBs?

Rankings FTA:

1. Will Grier, West Virginia
2. Tua Tagovailoa, Alabama
6. Drew Lock, Missouri
9. Jarrett Stidham, Auburn
11. Jake Fromm, Georgia
14. Jake Bentley, South Carolina
24. Kyle Shurmur, Vanderbilt

94. Feleipe Franks, Florida
95. Terry Wilson, Kentucky
107. Hasaan Klugh, Charlotte
122. Ryan Metz, UTEP

Yeah, that is a challenging array of QBs.

Obviously, some of them will get injured and we won't see them but our history with back ups makes me pray for the health of all these guys.

So from one half of a game, they think Tua is the second best QB in the country?? Jesus the media is a bunch of dumbasses.

I concede your point but still stand by the premise that Saban can win a championship with a mediocre qb. Most coaches can not.

The one issue I have with that is what you call "mediocre" QB. AJ McCarron came out of Mobile as a hotshot QB that would sling the ball. That was evident by what we saw early on. He would try to fit the ball in tight places and throw weird stuff near the end zone. That wasn't going to work with Coach Saban. AJ was redshirted and started as a RS Sophomore. That's the 3rd year of being groomed and coached up and when he played they called him a "game manager." That meant he worked within the offensive scheme Bama plays and didn't make a ton of stupid throws and mistakes. 3 NCs later he is still a "game manager." Nothing "mediocre" about AJ's game.

Had AJ gone to Texas Tech, Oklahoma, USC, etc, he would have passed for all kinds of records and had all kinds of turnovers. The sportswriters would have fawned all over him for his many yards and TDs. When he gets to the NFL he would still be who he is.

Andre Ward, David Klinger, David Carr, Colt Brennen, Braden Weeden and on and on they are listed in the all-time college passing leader category. Not a "game manager" among them. How did those NFL careers go and plenty of these guys won the Heisman?

Truth is all these guys got their yards as much because of the scheme their team was running as their arm. So maybe people could do a better job of defining what a "mediocre" QB really looks like.
