I have a friend who films for the team sometimes and I thought you guys might find this cool. Apparently before they started singing Dooley wanted to talk about the game when Nick Reveiz interrupted and said, "Hey coach! We have to sing!" which prompted Dooley to go "Oh yeah, we won that mother****er didn't we?" My friend thought it was weird hearing Dooley cuss. Wish he had kept that part in though (assuming he's not pulling my leg).

Didn't say it was rare, just thought someone might find it interesting during the slower months before football season (the thought of Dooley cussing however does make me smile). Would rather not get into a religious argument though.

Pretty sure they sing it after every win.

Maybe we should finish the song with "we re from rocky top Tennessee" when we beat Vandy, just from a politically correct, geographical standpoint ...

Wrong. We sing it after every win, no matter who we beat. It dates back to Neyland. We usually say "don't give a damn about the whole state of........, if it's Vandy or Memphis it's whole school of..... I went in locker room from 1991 to 1999 when i was a kid because i was friends with coach Chavis' sons. It has been a part of UT football as much as anything has.

  1. The Ohio State football fight song "We Don't Give a Damn for the Whole State of Michigan" is heard in the film although the word "darn" is substituted for "damn". The Motion Picture Production Code prohibited the use of "damn" as a swear word (Gone With the Wind received a rare exception to this rule). It is not certain if this song was written for the movie or was in use beforehand.
Come on man...we can't use Wikipedia as a reference...still researching as to who used it first.

Well it was definitely in the movie. So unless you can find somewhere it was used prior to that, I still believe osu was the first. The osu one flows better anyway
