Vols' Rumph after Florida loss: 'It's an ugly baby right now'
...."But I promise you, before long, we’re going to put a product out there on the field that you’re going to be really proud of. "

Rumph acknowledged that Tennessee fans have been waiting for years for the Vols to return to competing for championships on a regular basis. Back-to-back 9-4 seasons in 2015 and 2016 under Jones remain their most successful years since Tennessee last won the SEC East in 2007.

“I know it’s hard. It’s hard,” Rumph said. “It’s been a long time. And it’s coming. I don’t know when it’s coming. I wish I could say we’re going to win the rest of them. I don’t know. I don’t know. But I promise you, before long, we’re going to put a product out there on the field that you’re going to be really proud of.

“And when we sing ‘Rocky Top,’ we’re going to sing it from the bottom of our stomach to the top of our lungs, and we’re going to scream it out loud. I promise you that.

“And we’re not going to quit, so don’t quit on these guys. Don’t quit on this staff. Don’t quit on this town. Don’t quit on this university. We need you. We need you. In such a time as this, we need you.”

Rumph insisted he’s not worried about the Vols' state of mind going into a brutal stretch of SEC games that starts with a trip to No. 2 Georgia on Saturday.

“They’re going to respond,” he said. “We’re not going to allow them to quit. Quit is not an option. It’s not a multiple-choice deal. It’s straight essay. You’ve got to write the answer. It’s not multiple choice. There’s not an option, not a choice.”

Can we fire Beldar and hire Rumph? He put more feeling and emotion in those few sentences than JP has shown since hes been here. Who the Hell can get fired up playing for a walking coma?

I think the walking Coma is only in interview sessions, seems pretty into it during games to me.

Coaching staff won’t let em quit the next 3 games? Well that’ll be a change of pace, since they pretty much quit on Saturday as soon as they ran out of the tunnel. Sorry Coach Rumph....I know you had to say something as a speaker at the QB club, even if you don’t believe it. But the words ring awfully hollow. Quite honestly, I just don’t believe you.

I think Pruitt has lots of passion, just not in front of a microphone or camera. He uses his passion on his players, and I can live with that, if he is coaching players like we continue to hear he is doing behind closed doors.

Big fan of Rump on and off the field.

Hes saying what he should in front a mic.

If individual players or the entire team lays down it's not his or any other staff members job to alert the public. They re gonna get fired if they cant fix it. Not because they told everyone that its broke.

Honesty, I am not surprised at your reply. We will see what happens in the next 2-3 years and then see where we stand.

Not ugly at all, might need to set some limits and we're good to go...

You guys are embarrassing. Not one of you would say a word to one of these coaches but you come on here and present comments worthy of the Jerry Springer show. Low level thinking would best describe it.

Only a grown man, scared to confront other grown men, thinks this way.

Stop projecting.

Ive walked into jobs during my career that were complete sh**shows. I'm glad there wasn't a messege board for me. I kicked a lot of trash cans Lol. This group is trying to turn it around.

I've had to do the same. I've kicked a white board or two in my day... Lol

The TN fan in me is impatient and tired of waiting.

The general manager in me knows these things don't fix themselves and it doesn't happen overnight.

Culture change is hard. And generally means replacing personnel along the way.

I'm not happy or excited about what lies ahead short term. But this is going to take longer than we thought.
