I'm sure this has been discussed a ton, feel free to link me to a thread if it already exists.

With all the top WR's, Hurd, etc coming in...we don't have one QB in this class? I understand we have at least 4 on roster currently. So does butch think he has his guy on the team already? Or, he's waiting to surprise us at the end of this class? I've seen all the debate on our current QB's, just a little surprising a top flight QB didn't feel inclined to join this class.

They still don't even know what they have in the group of 4, now. So, I don't think their sense of urgency is dire. They probably are going to use this class as lure for one of the top prospects for 2015. There will likely be a lot of camps in the summer, that will clarify the QB picture

Butch feels QB situation now is not bad. It's the parts surrounding the QB. Look to 2015 for another QB or two!
GO VOLS!

I wouldn't panic too much. None of our QBs had much experience prior to this season. Also it didn't help that they were learning a new system that none of them except one was recruited for. As we all know neither one really separated themselves in spring or summer camp so they all were taking equal reps for the most part so real chemistry was built with WR. Heck our best receiver didn't get on campus until June so that also kinda of limited the Chemistry they could build. Lastly outside of North no WR really emerged. Croom and Pig showed flashes but no consistency.

I believe there will be a lot more competition among the QB's this off-season. Year 2 in the system we should see a lot of improvement from our QBs. We also will have enough talent at WR. We would possibly be starting (North, Pearson, Pig/Croom/Malone) at WR core that could be dynamic.

If Butch didn't think the QBs on the roster were up to the task, I can assure you he would have recruited one harder. Even if it wasn't a top tier QB. JMO

You just don't see surprise QB commits this late. They commit early, very early in the process. And like others have said, we have a good stable of QBs... he's still feeling them out.

This will be a heavily watched Spring Camp.. I can't wait, Bart Scott-style..

A SR...RS SO...SO...RS FR...Thats how you want them spread out

will agree that's how you want them spread out, but...
it really looks like this.
SR..weak arm, doesn't fit system..
RS SO..deer in headlights in only game action..
SO best game against UK, nuff said, but potential
RS FR the Unknown..

I look for a 5 star in next years class actually..

who's out there?

We had some top targets---Barker, Cornwell, etc. but they committed elsewhere. I think Butch and the crew missed on those top targets and aren't going to settle for a "lesser" prospect just so they can get a QB....I'm ok with that. Let's be honest--outside of North and all the guys we are going to bring in the 2014 class we don't have a lot of weapons on the roster. Any high school QB wants to have playmakers to throw to---and if all goes according to plan we will have that on NSD 2014. Another thing is I don't think Butch is freaking out because we have Dobbs and Ferguson. Dobbs can only get better but we really don't totally know what we have in him. Ferguson hasn't seen the field. I'm not freaking out about the QB situation. I'll also add that we have serious deficiencies on both sides of the line--OL and DL---rather fill up on those kids (especially the JUCOs) than a QB that probably won't play his first year.

Imo it will either be Dobbs or Ferguson. Peterman is well um Peterman and Worley cannot run the zone read at all. We got to have a guy with wheels in this offense and that 40 yard TD run from Dobbs in the KY game was nice to see.

No offense but this has been endlessly discussed. Went after a couple or 3 top flight qbs (Cornwell and Barker for sure), didn't get one early which is when the best qbs commit. Rather than take a "lesser qb", Butch decided to hold tight with the 4 he has.... plus he has repeatedly said he really likes his Frosh qbs Dobbs and Fergy. Look for 2 qbs in the 15 class.

Petterman was the 8th rank QB in the country in the 2012 class. I can promise he's a player. He broke his thumb as soon as he was dumped into the Florida game and said nothing to the coaches so end up looking like a bafoon. He's not done in the competition. Ferg is the only one yet to see any action. I hope he get's his chance but not like the others being thrown into the grinder.

A SR...RS SO...SO...RS FR...Thats how you want them spread out

With three "minor" exceptions...

You want the SR to be the incumbent, battle-tested starter.

You want the RS SO to be the heir apparent.

You want the SO and RS FR to be battle it out for the #3 spot, one eventually separating himself.

And if you're Senior isn't the overwhelming odds-on favorite to be the starter...

I guess Matt Simms doesn't count...but I agree it isn't very common.

This has been my rationalization as well. He knows what he has, so surely he would have gone after somebody harder if he thought he had too.

My fear with waiting for the class of 2015 is then he's a freshman when the 2014 class is sophomores....needs a year for experience, learning, etc. I guess when he's a sophomore, 2014 class is juniors, I could see that working well.

Like you guys have said, still a lot to be determined with QB's currently on roster.

Hope you're right about the 5* in next year's class. B/c I'm with you...a lot of uncertainty on our roster right now. If we want to be competing for SEC titles in 3 or 4 years (now 2 or 3 yrs)...the QB spot being a huge unkown makes me nervous.

That said, as others have suggested, we're filling up in other key areas, maybe one of the current guys separate themselves or Butch picks up a stud in the next class.

of course he's said he likes Dobbs and Fergy, think he's going to publicly say otherwise?

Don't get mad at the OP because YOU'RE on the board all day and get tired of every topic. :)

haha, thank you! At least I started out my post with "I'm sure this has been discussed plenty". Which I guess is kind of like saying "no offense, but"!

Although knowing it had been discussed, I wasn't sure if it had been discussed much since the season ended. Letting the season play out didn't do anything to make me feel better about the QB situation.
