Vols Practice Thread #5

Nothing I’ve read thus far has me feeling too confident about the QBs

After seeing what we saw last season, what made you even think you might feel confident about our QBs ? .. I think Vols look for a Game manager QB who may pass the ball like 20% of the time and 50% of those pass plays will be throw it out of bounds and don't get sacked or turn it over..

The scope of the drills seems extended from years past. Maybe can create an expectation that is kept in body memory. You know 3-6 sounds good but it is a mere concept after all.

Jeremy Banks is built like a tank and moves well too. He may make waves this year.

Jennings looking thicker than last year. Is he slower? Hope not. Hope he's just put on muscle and kept his speed. With his skill, and agression plus TO style strength ... Watch out.

WR #4 and #85 look very athletic. #8 as expected is lightening fast.

Every time I watch these, I get more excited @ our LB group. I mean the traditional 4-3 ones. #35,14,34 look NFL capable. #21 & #23 are right there too. Very excited that the middle of our D may not look like an empty 3 lane interstate this year.

Great to hear @ TKjr too. With him in top shape, I'm confident in our 5 assumed top guys. Jax, Kelly, Sham, Abernathy, & NW.

Our defense looks really good talent wise. Hoping the depth issues are being solved. Now, the big Q is ... can this group learn a new system and lock it down play after play. I have doubts in yr 1, but if they do then this group could be very good.

Thx Fingers for the daily updates. You're the man.

If Sapp doesn't play edge in 3-4, it sounds like he should get some playing time as Sam with DKjr. I would love DK to play full time but we should ease him in after coming off a serious knee injury.

These receivers are so athletic but they can't catch herpes in a hostel. Looking forward to seeing how Helton is going to work them in slowly to get a rhythm.

Frustrating to read that the receivers continue to drop passes. Cost the Vols at least 2 games last year. Palmer drop against Florida and Johnson drop against SCAR were both in their hands and both for TD's that would have won those games. It doesn't matter how big, fast ,strong you are or how well you run routes if you can't catch the football you need to move to DB or the bench. Maybe holding these guys after practice and making them catch 100 balls off the machine for everyone they drop would help, IDK but looks like we're going to continue to see drives end and TD's lost because we have a WR corp that can't catch the football!

Dropping too many passes. This is redicolus. Put the receivers on the tennis ball machine and pound them for hours. It has worked here before. Catching tennis balls get you to see the ball.
Write a name on the ball and have they say it before the catch.
