Vols Practice Article

Nice article.

What sticks out to me:

Eric Berry and Nevin McKenzie "in the mix".

Speed is the largest upgrade at receiver.

Vinson is the only freshman practicing with 2nd team.

Quintin Hancock practiced with the starters. No Josh Briscoe.

I thought the same things. I think as practice goes on though, that O'Neal and Jones will work their way up the DC.

The article mentions RT as the open spot on the line. Not true. The other OG opposite Anthony Parker is wide wide open between Foster, McClendon, and Richard. What we might see is Jacques or Vlad take the OG spot, and slide Foster to RT.

I was just thinking the same thing.

I think McClendon will lock that spot up by the Cal game. Hope Chris Scott shows up this year too.

People have been complainig about o-line depth, but we have a lot of good young players: McClendon, Vlad, McNeil, Scott, and I expect Darris to be a Chad Clifton like player.

You're right, we do have a lot of young guys in the O-line mix. I've been noticing that... It could turn into a real position of strength for us again in the next couple of years.

I just hope we make a huge improvement for this season too.

If we have two guys in better shape than a ALL-SEC with 6+ yard per game, that must be a good news. But I am still like Lamarcus better...

I can't help but think that the problem with Coker has nothing to do with his physical ability or play on the field. The coaches seem to have some kind of issue with him...and I can't see that the issue would have anything to do with his play on the field....

I like them all but want the best getting the ball. If Coker is 3rd then he is third.

IMO Coker gives UT the best chance of winning. Without question he outperformed the other 2 backs last season, almost twice the yds/carry.

If Fulmer wants to put Coker 3rd on the depth chart, then he better WIN this season. Otherwise he is setting himself for criticism over that decision.

Didn't Foster get arrested for public intoxication last season? What has Coker done that has been worse then that? I know the one rumor out there.

The kid is good but the others are not chopped liver. It is very early and if he has attitude issues then this could very wll be a wake up call. If he is an attitude problem then I don't care how good he is. We went through that crap and I don't want to again. I think the staff is committed to make sure we have no more attitude problems on the team.

I was disappointed with Foster last season. He averaged around 3.8 yds/carry, he needs to improve a lot to be equal with Coker IMO. Coker's speed is the difference, Foster and Hardesty will probably never be as fast.

To be honest, if I averaged almost twice as many yards/carry as the other backs on the team, and I was listed 3rd on the depth chart, I think I might have an attitude too.

yea, if Coker doesnt move up within the next week then the coaches must have a problem with him.. seriously.. maybe they were just trying to motivate him to get him to go that extra mile.. that might be why they had him on the 3rd string.. who knows..

All I know is that, he better be the starter by CAL week...and I think Kenny O'Neal worked with the 3rd string because of him not knowing the playbook...Id bet on seeing him with the first string very soon

I rather see our most talented back (coker) starting, but...if he's got an attitude or whatever, Im glad the coaches are sticking it to him. That said, if the game is on the line, they'll put him in.

Our 1st-string receivers will inspire fear in no one.

Then I wouldn't want you on my team. I played with kids who had that attitude and we made them suffer. If you want it and you have it you have to have the heart to take it. If he doesn't then let him go. I say that about all players not just Coker. I hope the kid figures out what he needs to but if he don't then let him go.

I am afraid Coker is not as great as some of you think he is. Yes, he is SUPER FAST, but he misses cuts and is very small and does not have that oomph about him. Most of Coker's best runs were against Memphis, Marshall and Vandy. Foster is a beast and he will be the feature back. Hardesty is going to be a big plus if he can stay healthy. Look for Coker to get involved in the passing game a little more. The coaches think the world of Lennon Creer's ability, as he has great power and strength. It is a job just to tackle the guy, so look for him to be up to about 220 at the start of next year. That is the information on the tailbacks.
