Vols Open As 50 Point Favorites Over Akron

Have we ever been favored by this much before? We opened as 50 point favorites over Akron.

This point spread is such a trap for the Vols to cover. Sure they could do it fairly easily, but we don’t know if Heupel wants Hooker to play into the 4th to work on his overthrows and timing with receivers. Likely most of the 1st team offense won’t play past the first couple drives of 3rd. Also likely on 4th and short we will punt instead of going for it to work on our punting after having one blocked.

That's why I'n asking lol. I'd be scared to put money down on it even though we can do it. That's a tall order I don't care who you're playing.

Exactly what I'm thinking. With Florida coming in next week I'd try to get the starters out by halftime.

The last time they kept it under 50 vs a FBS school was 2019 when a very bad Illinois team beat them 42-3.

It's really a coaches decision. Lines this big often won't even be handled by handicappers. UGA only got a line from one source last week and they were 52 point favorites vs Samford at that book. They didn't come even close to covering. It's mostly a coaches choice in these games and how open he's willing to be with the back ups. We let the back ups run the offense for the most part vs Ball State so I'm sure to get equal betting they need a big line. The biggest SEC line I can remember over the last few years was Arkansas as 54 point favorites over Florida A&M I think. They didn't cover. 50+ point favorites cover about 38 percent of the time in the 2000s.

1st half spread is -30. . . which, believe it or not, is a good deal for this game.

We'll likely score 35+ in the 1st half. Hopefully our D can limit them to 3pts or less in the 1st half.
