The majority of Tennessee's remaining signees from the 2017 class officially were added to the Vols' roster on Thursday. Twenty of Tennessee's signees, along with wide receiver commitment Princeton Fant and graduate-transfer cornerback Shaq Wiggins, all attended their first classes in Knoxville on Thursday, the opening day of first-session summer classes, a source confirmed to GoVols247.

Wide receiver signees Jordan Murphy and Jacquez Jones are the only members of Tennessee's 2017 class who have yet to arrive on campus. Murphy, a Top247 prospect from Hattiesburg, Miss., and Jones, a three-star from Clearwater, Fla., both are working toward completing the academic requirements necessary for them to enroll. Sources confirmed that they're hoping to join the Vols in late June to enroll at the start of the second summer session in early July.

I really hope Murphy and Jones can get their academics in order. We need both of them to add depth to the WR core. They both are very talented and have a promising future. It would be a big hit to lose two of our best WR commits from the 17' class.

Ty was supposed to be up there around Memorial Day or shortly after.

Time for him to hit the protein and the gym. Lol

Academics can be a mine field if you didn't qualify the first go around. Wish them the best.

It fires me up because of how unjust it can be. A lot of these 18 year olds come from nothing and athletics serve as their way out of broken homes, poverty, etc. Why not be more lenient in some situations? They're going to have advisors and tutors in college and for a lot of these kids they've never had someone in their lives holding them accountable for things like school work when they don't even know where their next meal is coming from.

This is the time of year that the NCAA clearinghouse will go into "all hands on deck" mode as they review updated cases for late qualifiers, follow up on summer school grades and last minute transfer credits. I have a friend who works in compliance at the NCAA office here in downtown Indy who told me that the difference between a late qualifier being cleared to enroll for summer term and a late qualifier who has to wait a week into fall camp before knowing if they have been cleared can come down to something as little as how fast their transcripts get sent over from a previous school or how long it takes their state's educational testing service to grade an ACT or SAT.

If anyone remembers a DE/OLB named Gerald Williams who played from '08-'10 that's a prime example of how bad a delay in the system can screw these kids. He graduated in '05 and didn't play a down for UT until '08. Didn't qualify out of HS because of a late decision and it was too late to enroll anywhere else. As a result he tried to grayshirt and enroll the following spring but didn't qualify, then went to prep school but again didn't qualify and finally went to juco for a season before being admitted.

The sad truth is that most kids don't have the resiliency and determination to look at the big picture and stick with it for an extra semester, let alone for 3 years in Gerald Williams' case.

Not wild about a freshman wearing 27. At the very least I wish a LB had gotten it. I hope Crosby understands the significance of who wore it before him.

If they allow it for one they will have to do it for all or else they'll be sued I to oblivion. If this chain reaction starts how does it factor into the academic progress rates? I think your heart is in the right place but this will have lots of repercussions beyond the feel good aspect of giving someone a pass on academics.

I thought I saw somewhere that Ty may have pulled a hammy in the state track meet, can anyone confirm? If so, hopefully it was minimal and won't become an issue this summer in workouts...

How the heck is it unjust? Some of them get into school with far inferior grades than the average student, and you call it unjust?? It's great that they can play ball so they can get out of bad situations, but if they can't make the grades in high school, which are a joke if you have an IQ above 80, how are they gonna make it at UT?

May they all wind up with girlfriends as hot as Josh Smith's, GPA's as high as Josh Dobbs, and four NCAA championship rings!

Can I hear an AMEN!

There is a University on campus too. Don't forget that. Why are Universities who live and die by their credibility allowing students to enroll who do not meet the basic requirements of higher education?
