"The WR grad transfer told me Tennessee has let him know that they have a spot for him if he wants it." -- Trey Wallace

Here's his profile page at USC.

Velus Jones Jr. - Football - USC Athletics

Story from LA last week:

After first considering a transfer last spring, only to return for his junior season, USC receiver and kick returner Velus Jones Jr. has decided to reenter the transfer portal.

His decision comes after a campaign in which he failed to find a foothold in one of the Trojans’ deepest rotations. As other receivers passed him up on the depth chart, Jones didn’t record a catch until mid-October. He finished the season with six catches for 35 yards, his lowest totals since he arrived at USC.
Jones nearly left the program after he entered the transfer portal in March. The Alabama native briefly considered following former Trojan offensive coordinator Tee Martin to Tennessee.

If he couldn't make it on the field at USC, why give him a spot on our roster? He would only have 1 year of eligibility.
It's a fair question. If Tennessee did decide to bring him on I imagine it would be because they wanted another experienced receive maybe? We lose Jennings and Callaway. We do add Deangelo Gibbs and have Brandon Johnson coming back.

Palmer is solid. Keyton has potential but hasn't proven much yet. He had four catches this year. Same as Tillman.

I would have never guessed that . Palmer is a really solid receiver just not flashy like Callaway .
I remember Palmer having some really big catches this (last) year. I don't know if I'm more surprised that Palmer had that many catches or that Callaway didn't have more. Probably the later.

Callaway seemed like he always made the big plays and JJ was JJ. Easy to over look Palmer. But he got some game.
I think Palmer could have a really big year next year. I'm also excited to see if Gibbs can live up to the hype he seems to have generated around campus this year.

With everything we're losing at wide receiver, I'm not completely against bringing him in. Obviously he isn't a great player (if he was he wouldn't be on the market), but he could still be a solid contributor for us given our lack of returning depth at receiver.

Why not give a full offer to Darion Williamson who has the potential to be a big contributor instead of a blue shirt?
Not sure, but maybe less risk in a 1yr scholarship compared to 4yrs? Maybe Tee is sold that the kid has something.

We need help at receiver but not sure why he’d come here over others considering we were 8th in passing in the SEC with 3 senior WR/TE’s.

Or he could be the WR version of Joe Burrow! lol

good points.....but honestly--our QB play has been so poor and inconsistent that I don't think any fair evaluation may be offered about those guys.....

No, you're right. It's not a fair evaluation, just that they're unproven. I think Keyton and Tillman both have a lot of potential.

Take the USC name out of the equation. He doesn't appear to have any more potential than our current roster. I hope to get the pass rusher from Temple and recruit a young speedster at WR if possible. However, he may be the fallback plan.
